Re: Would you vacate your house for an airshow?
:smt040 Maybe it's my age -- lmfaoo but really! I would not walk across a street to see an air show -- waist of time and money and to vacate a house -- well maybe if they purchased it for about twice the value to cover personal items allowing me to leave with only what I could carry -- bah -- humbug...

Re: How to groundloop a flying boat
piston powered floatplane with reverse. I selected reverse to slow while still on the step, and the aircraft became sloppy in pitch and yaw
a SeaBee is just naturally like that in any powered regime

Re: How to groundloop a flying boat
I have no experience with "water" loops but I do know about ground loops having preformed several to stop an aircraft after lose of breaks -- the dynamics are that at some point in the ground loop you must assist the aircraft in the turn to tighten the ground loop so when you are going through 180 a...

Re: How to groundloop a flying boat
Regardless of what happened when I look at that aircraft it appears to me that it's a poorly designed hull with very little pronounce keel and what we see on the video is part of it's nasty little habits -- clip the wings and turn it into a WIG

Re: How to groundloop a flying boat
Same as the Beaver -- in my day that's how you stopped a beaver - most of float planes as well -- dig the floats -- checking back will not stop you as fast as might be required -- now dig the floats and the stopping distance is cut to almost nothing -- like anything else - it needs a little finesse...

Re: No Alternate IFR issue
It sounds from the CADOR as if they forgot to check the NOTAMs before departure, so they weren't actually legal to depart. not totally maybe ultimately but it is a co-authority dispatch system so maybe the ball was dropped in publication or even maybe time of issue -- I'm sure it will be addressed ...

The stupidity of some people
CBC reporting this morning that helicopter and fire fighter aircraft called off a fire in California due to "private" drones in the area of the fire -- likely oportunists looking for footage to sell but then--- wtf -- how can people be so stupid -- ACTPA -- --

Re: SPIFR vs Crew in 703
As a commercial pilot, you should know that this is illegal. To fly a GPS Approach, you need a trackbar and annunciator panel in the PF's immediate field of view. from reading his post I don't think what they are doing is illegal - he referred to captain's HSI for decent angle reference (constant d...

Re: SPIFR vs Crew in 703
I think they should ban 2 pilots in 703 - it's the only way to work a reasonable schedule

Re: "Any conflicting traffic..." Is A Stupid Thing To Say
My last post on this subject -- really from my continued "coming home" experience with my grass roots beginning in NWO I have come to the conclusion that it's not what you say but how you say it - I would hazard a guess that on any given day in the 126.7/MF madhouse in NWO, Northern Ontario and Mani...

Re: "Any conflicting traffic..." Is A Stupid Thing To Say
To sum it up for me about 90% of all traffic advisories have too much information on the initial call -- are we not just trying to establish the fact that there is actually traffic that we should be talking to. If there is - now this is where sometimes the conversations get winded but necessary -- b...

Re: Fireboss down!
For the most part the medavac community has seen the light and are a lot safer today than the bygone days when it was considered OK to break the rules to get it done. I think for the most part it's also creeping into the water bombing world as well but there are always exceptions -- the only glaring...

Frozen chicken or roast in the morning becomes a delicious family meal in around 8 hours. That means evening meal plus leftovers for a single guy. That's why I bought my first microwave -- get you dinner out of the freezer and get home 6 days later -- damn -- that was ripe :smt040 -- knock a fly of...

Re: Westjet Unionization + Bomb threats = Connected?
They have an in-house association but are not certified as a bargaining agent with the CIRB Really -- so I guess the kool aid might be getting a little sour(but not related to this issue) -- why would they bother with an association and not certify -- we did and air canada certainly did -- the only...

Re: Westjet Unionization + Bomb threats = Connected?
As far as I know the pilot group is unionized (in house association is still a union) so are you referring to other company groups - i have gone through labour disputes where there were bomb threats but always from a disgruntled pilot group not ever from a company - silly man

Maybe have an OCA-Hooker reunion after all. Well 2 of us for sure.
Will do -- might even have enough beach to park on by then -- --will have to see if Oates will be around as well--
