Re: "Three possible Transat suitors say they are not interested in acquiring struggling airline"

This has probably been mentioned so point me to it if it has, but why does the EU even have a say in two Canadian companies merging? Because they operate flights to the EU? I'm sure the EU's only focus is protecting EU airlines from competition but honestly, that shouldn't matter. I read above someo...

Re: I'm looking for some advice during COVID?

Is moving up north(Northern Ontario, Quebec, NWT, Yukon) an option for you? I think it would be a good time as spring is approaching. You could get a non flying job with a flying company and who know's maybe get a flying job by the summer or within a year. If that is not an option that is ok as well...

Re: B-17 down in Connecticut

Good information in that report. There is a typo though, it stated that the Chief Pilot was 23 years old and had been in that position for 3 years. A very thorough report. I mentioned earlier in the thread that I know a pilot who did some flying on that B-17. He mentioned to me about the chief pilo...

It's CBC but for once seems largely factual. I've been loosely following this virus story since last summer. When the government clams up, there is always more than meets the eye. Same as the story about the senior civilian RCMP guy in the hoosegow for espionage. Have a read https://www.cbc.ca/news...

Re: Annoying pilot "friends"

Many Pilots along the way have been the reason why I have been hired at certain companies and I have been the reason some of them were hired as well. I would have absolutely ZERO issue with a Pilot contacting me after 5,10, 20 years to discuss employment opportunities. I may very well need to contac...

Re: Cherokee Six missing near Kingston?

No one here has ever made an error in judgement...right? Oh... I have made so many! Nearly died in one. Written about many others here, in the hope that newer pilots might consider what I think threatened the safety of my flight, could also threaten the safety of theirs. Maybe they're more skillful...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Speedah, You are correct, I don't think they are like that at all, just stating a situation that actually happened. The person could have already been in the PFO pile and that just reminded HR to pass on the PFO now instead of waiting... I'm curious what people are hoping to get out of an email? I s...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

I wouldn't recommend emailing HR. Heard from a friend years ago that they emailed HR after 8 weeks of no response asking what the status of their interview was and they received a mailed PFO letter dated the exact date they sent the email. Coincidence? maybe. Worth the risk, definitely NOT in my opi...

Re: alcohol and jumpseating

If you are jumpseating on your own carrier I would say no. Jumpseating on another carrier I'd say no issue at all In fact, on occasions when I've had a jumpseater I've handed the in charge FA my credit card and said "tell the crew member you have my credit card and anything is on me." I don't have t...

Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

Another option to consider if you have the ambition and drive is to build your own house, I did it, it took me 5 years while I worked full time and lived in a travel trailer in the driveway. Im not talking about paying a contractor to do it for you, or being your own contractor, I'm talking about d...

I agree with Piston Pounder. I spent 4 winters in Yellowknife, some of the best years of my life and I am still friends with the people I met up there today. I feel as if an aviation career is an adventure/journey and the Magic of the Northwest Territories fulfilled that. But thats just my opinion. ...

Re: Career in Aviation, realistic expectations

Go for it. You still have 25 years of flying left. Think about that.....25 years...a lot of time. Like they said above, the money will be tough for you for a while. But life is too short not to do what you like to do. Go for it and don't listen to any naysayers, even family(although that might be ha...

Diadem, well said. Thank you for your service and any member for that matter. I love Canada and I'm happy my Taxes go to this country and its treatment of humans.
