Re: US Airspace question
In theory you can go bombing around above Class B and below 18,000 ft without talking to ATC. In practice this is a really bad idea. "Request VFR Flight Following" is a the way to go. Once you accept VFR Flight following you are required to comply with any ATC instructions. Usually it all works real...

Re: Traing bond legal question
I suspect the big question here is "Did you resign? If you did you're likely out of luck. If they issued you with a lawful notice of termination due to a shortage of work, I'd think you'd be OK. There are a few bonds out there that try to keep you on the hook during a temporary layoff but those are ...

I'm wondering how many people were effected by the Air Canada "technical issue" on May 28th? A friend of mine got caught in it and was stuck in YVR on her way to YEG. As I understand it, Air Canada more or less told her to find her own way home and that she would be re-reimbursed. So she booked West...

Re: expired medical question
It's illegal to fly for hire or reward with an expired Cat 1
You might get an extension if you apply before you expire. As I understand it TC has gotten fairly sticky about just handing them out.
You cannot get an extension once you've expired!! "You cannot extend what does not exist".

Re: New Journey Log procedures
The previous comment about keeping the old one forever for resale value is a really good one. Doesn't matter if old book is old and falling apart, at least it shows that you're not trying to hide things. You can keep it someplace safe where it won't deteriorate further. If I were a purchaser, a miss...

Flaps up, slow count to 6, flaps approach. It will get you very close and you don't have to watch the flap indicator while you're trying to adjust power.

Re: B.C. Supreme Court enforces training bond agreement
What was oppressive in this one was that the bond was signed prior to training. For a Bond to be valid, I think it has to be signed in advance. Otherwise you may lack "valuable consideration". In non Lawyerspeak the idea is that "you give me something, I give you something". If you sign after the e...

Hey, try 9.3 Reykjavik to Goose, single pilot in a 404. Took my spine a week to recover.
However on the subject of BE20 long range, if alternates are few and far between and you only have a few long range high profit flights, then I like the idea.

Re: King Air 200 modifications?
Question, but if you're under 703 and apply the CanTex kit, does that mean your maintenance has to be carried out in accordance with 704 requirements? I don't think so. In the U.S "Commuter" aircraft are those certified over 12,500 pounds gross takeoff weight. You need Balanced Field length and so ...

Re: King Air 200 modifications?
Regarding the Gross Weight increase, it doesn't change the Zero Fuel weight, so I see it as an opportunity for more alternates plus some longer flights.
My thanks for all the helpful replies, both public and private. I found them to be useful and constructive.

King Air 200 modifications?
I'm looking at possible King Air 200 modifications. Firstly a gross weight increase STC. I gather that CenTex is one possibility. Secondly, the Garmin 1000 avionics upgrade. So if there are any folks from Fast Air or any other operator who might wish to comment, I'm interested. I'm looking for opini...

Re: Flight attendant positions in Alberta
As a RN you might wish to consider Flight Nursing. In Alberta, we have Paramedics. However Manitoba has Flight Nurses. Way better pay than a Flight Attendant and you can more or less "write your own ticket". Perimeter out of YWG might be a good bet. Most of these positions are rotational.

And United is far from the worst of the lot.I used to think air canada sucked until I started working in the states and routinely flew united. Now I think air canada is the best airline in north america.

Re: You're doing it wrong.
Assuming that you want maximum flight time all you do is start the engine then, as soon as safe, allow the aircraft to move 6 inches forward for a brake check. Then you do all the rest of what you have to do before you can go flying.

Square windows, PT6 exhaust stacks, that makes it a 406. Radar pod on the bottom, that makes it Customs or Maritime Patrol of some sort.

Re: Pay My Training Bond? Should i worry about a lawsuit?
There are a few errors an Employer can make which could invalidate a bond. Assuming this isn't the case, I think your best strategy would be to try to work out monthly installments. Refusing to pay at all will most likely get a civil judgement against you. Once your Employer gets that, I'm not convi...

Re: Charter op requirements into the US
You need the FAA operations specs, we deal with the Seattle FSDO. They take about a month as a rule.
Plus you need U.S. CAB (Civil Aviation board) authority, fairly easy to get under NAFTA.
Plus you'll need a U.S. customs bond.

It may be worth your while to take your broken headset into a Bose store. This only works at a Bose branded store, not a dealer like Best Buy or whomever. A lot of times Bose will over the counter exchange a broken headset for a brand new one at a pretty reasonable price. Worth a try anyway.
