Re: Military landing planes on Dempster highway for training
Drove the Dempster in 1986. There are a few places intended to be landing strips and have signs that say "Watch for Aircraft Using Highway."

CZBB has lots of room for transient parking just to the east of the new terminal. Call Bay Fuel on 122.95 when you arrive. They charge a few bucks a day for small craft, though current rates are not on their web site - give them a call Phone: 604-946-5361 (office hours 0800 - 1700 Local). I haven't ...

Awwww that sucks. I was planning on spending the day at long beach on Sunday. Figures, I knew there had to be a catch to all this sunny weather! I've been trying to fly in for the last few days. It's been completely fogged in, even though the forcast usually says it will clear in the afternoon. But...

Current NOTAMs say most of CYAZ is closed, including all three aprons. I was hoping to go there and park on Apron 3 for access to the terminal and beach, but apparently that is not possible. Where are aircraft parking these days? Anybody been there lately? Google turns up nothing. 120066 CYAZ TOFINO...

Tumbler Ridge IFR Approach?
Enroute chart LO1 shows Tumbler Ridge CBX7 as having an instrument approach available yet there are none in the CAP. Anybody know why? I'm interested because I have relatives there.

I'll chime in and agree that you should get the Engineering degree, if you have the aptitude for it. Not everyone does, but unlike many other professions like medicine, law or accounting, you don't have to spend years working your ass off for peanuts. You can go right into a well paying career. I go...

No need to install software - there are web sites that do this. Google "image resize" and you'll find some. http://www.picresize.com looks like it'll work.

I never had a chance to try out DC ANR headsets. I am surprised to hear positive comments on the ANR version. Could someone recommend the best DC ANR model? I bought the H10-13XL ten years ago when I began flight training. I still use and love them, but I have not tried the Zulu. Later I bought the...

I'm pretty sure they did install pumps. I seem to remember a new above ground tank when I was there late last year. I don't have a CFS at hand to double check, but I'm pretty sure it is YDC I'm thinking of... Current CFS says 100LL and JA available. If you have Google Earth with Panoramio enabled, ...

Re: Canada Customs at CYWG??? ... they cleared me over the p
I've entered Canada three times - once at YWG. I was cleared over the phone, there and at CZBB. I think they exercised good judgement. The third time was at Sault St Marie on the Sunday Oshkosh ended last year. When I parked there were no agents around, so I called the phone number and was cleared o...

Swung by CZBB today to check out my new hangar on apron 3 - almost finished! CGTUM is still at Safari although they should have finished the work by now. I won't have much time for flying for the next few months anyway as work is super busy. IFR renewal is due this spring - do you do multi-IFR on Tw...

I can't believe some of the anti-US schadenfreude here. When they are no longer the super power, which is what they are currently trying hard to achieve, Canada and the rest of the free world will not benefit. In fact the economic consequences will VERY bad for commercial pilots everywhere. So enjoy...

I flew through Quebec on the way to PEI and back this summer. I was IFR the whole time, stopping at Quebec City eastward and Sherbrooke westbound. The majority of ATC chatter was in French, which I do not speak, but I did not find it to be a problem. Landing in Sherbrooke for fuel, I called the Unic...

Re: 4 die in Algonquin plane crash
I flew over Algonquin this summer - Sault Ste Marie to Ottawa. It's some of the most inhospitable terrain I have ever seen - no roads or clearings anywhere. It's worse than most of BC in my experience.
Lots of lakes though. Is it better to ditch or go for the trees? Those are the two choices.

Re: How would you rather fly? IFR or VFR?
Interesting question. I've flown about 70 hours the last month in my little single from CZBB to Cape Breton and back. When doing a 3-4 hour leg going from A to B I prefer IFR. However, I'm not super experienced so I don't want to push the weather. If conditions are clear or ceilings and tops are low...

Fuel in Grande Cache - Forget It !
My route was Calgary Springbank to Tumbler Ridge (route via Banff, Jasper and Hinton), and TR does not have fuel. After TR I will be heading south again and would like lots of fuel on board, so I planned a stop in Grande Cache which according to the CFS has 100LL available. In the morning I called t...

Not in Canada. The busier US airport CZ/Terminal airspace are class B up to 10000 usually, with class E above. This means uncontrolled VFR is allowed between 10000 and 12500 above the class B.navajo wrote:is there really any class B below 12 500?

Thanks for the replies - I parked at Petro-T today and they had me tied down and in my taxi in a matter of minutes. The road traffic here in YQB is the worst I have ever seen, what with road work and rush hour all happening at once. It took almost an hour to get downtown. Even Cambie St in Vancouver...
