Re: Headset suggestion

DC H10-20 is what I bought new when I first got my private... Built like a tank, it survived 16 years of flying including some 5000 hours in Metros. ANR wasn't readily available at the time, but it was a very reliable headset. Ear seals and mike socks were the only things I replaced. Retired it from...

Re: Career Question

If it's your dream and you are up for the challenges of aviation (and there are many)... go for it! I completed my Comm/MIFR when I was 25 and change. Worked the office/ramp for 1.5 years, before getting my first seat at 27. Flew 703/704 for 6 years making anywhere between 22K-60K /yr. Every step fo...

Some really interesting stories and info in this link:

Hiding a 707 around the high arctic from creditors, (in addition to other events to keep the company alive) makes for interesting discussion!

Re: How are per diems supposed to be paid out?

I'm assuming your under federal and not provincial laws. This site below should give you some direction. As per this site, your granted $51.00/ day given your away from your base for 12hrs or more. If your company doesn't give the full amount of this daily per diem when away from your home base for...

Re: How are per diems supposed to be paid out?

I am wondering about the proper way per diems are supposed to be paid out? If you get X$ per day per diem is that what you are supposed to receive? I have heard that some company's pro-rate the per diems and anything over 4 hours is then paid out as your per diem. I have tried searching the TC web ...

One went to Air Niugini, one to OLT.... A LONG time ago: so long, that C-GPNL is now assigned to a 737-300!

Couldn't attach the PDF, but here's a link to the full report. There are a few B&W pics in it as well as full transcripts.

Re: Tubine Time and time on type

Ultimately, it will depend on the job market status: Pilot's market Vs. employer's market. Back around '04 (before the big boom) I carved my teeth on Metros for 3 years... then the music stopped cold. Despite having a few thousand hours of turbine time, I couldn't land a job on a King Air... because...

Re: Porter or Air Canada

Anyone remember the days of absolutely no variety of job oportunities and making your own decisions to find your path?

Seriously, there's NO sure thing or guaranteed stability in aviation. Enjoy the cycle while there are choices and save as much of your hard earned as you can.

Good luck

Re: A Metro Passenger

The early Metro IIs did in fact have JATO bottles installed as factory option for emergency engine out situations. The original -3 engines didn't have very much OOMPH in hot/high places, let alone enough jam on an engine failure after V1. Once the majority of flat rated -3 engines were replaced with...

The best place to find this bird is in Ottawa, as it regularily runs up to Iqaluit on freight runs.
