Re: ATF Procedures
If you haven't planned for the circle, then you probably shouldn't circle. If conditions are reasonable, you're in class G airspace, and you feel you can maneuver visually to avoid traffic, fine. Otherwise, you should probably go missed. Is it annoying if you have to miss for a NORDO aircraft? Yep. ...

Re: Air Tindi King Air 250 Captain
No typo. They've had at least one 250 (possibly a second, I can't remember if there was a second one in the hangar) since late April. I was on board one of them briefly. It still had the Proline system and executive interior installed, but it was going to be converted to medevac and G1000.

I'd hardly call it official when your source is "pilots I talked to." To the best of my knowledge, there have been no pilots laid off yet. It may happen, but until then...

Alternatively, it could be someone's (bad) idea of a joke. To the best of my knowledge, the "City of Halifax" does not own any helicopters... And in any case, it would be referred to as HRM if it was legit.

This thread made me dig out my 1900 POH to read up on icing conditions. I'm going to quote a bit out of it, so if you hate reading, skip to the next post. Actually, if you hate reading, move on to Youtube or something like that... "This airplane is approved for flight in icing conditions as d...

Re: Fishin' for Greasers.
Greasers are nice and all, but if that is a pilots focus, then it's probably going to be a sh*tty landing. I've found that I do better by doing things in a consistent and stabilized manner. If it's firm landing, cool. If it's a greaser, bonus! On my current aircraft, I didn't get a greaser (nor did ...

Re: Entry DSLR -- Help me blow some money
Prairie Chicken and Doc said it well. There is little difference between the two brands, so go with what feels best to you. When I bought my D90, I looked at both Nikon and Canon, but I found the Canon grips to be too small and were therefore uncomfortable in my hands. I also bought my camera at a c...

Really? Where are you getting your information from? Because this is most definitely not the case in the 1900s I fly.overhaulin wrote:The 1900 is a hangar queen. It also burns close to twice the fuel of a Garrett engine (comparing the metro and the 1900).

Re: Diamond Training Question - Soft Field
Trey, your comments are appreciated. While I don't fly the 20s or fly onto soft fields (although I guess you could say I do in the winter with the snow) anymore, I still like to hear the methods/techniques of others. When all you've heard is one way to do things, you begin to think that is the only ...

Re: Diamond Training Question - Soft Field
BPF: Very true. Did I f*ck up and land on a surface that was too wet? Yep. Did I learn from it? Yep. Would I land on a similar surface again with a DA20 if I had a choice? Nope. Not sure I follow your taildragger analogy here. Rudder authority isn't the issue with the DA20. Having the backpressure f...

Re: Diamond Training Question - Soft Field
I taught on the DA20s and flew onto grass whenever possible with my students. Good aircraft on dry grass, not so good when the ground is wet, but that applies to most aircraft anyway. With the stick full aft for the start of the roll (which it really should be. Unless you're asleep at the switch, yo...

Re: Flying from the Right Seat?
Wow .... now I'm curious .... why a left seat only restriction for the DA20? Tandems I can see ... reaching some controls maybe ... CG considerations, etc. But a side by side that I could reach across? Is the fuel selector in a weird spot or something? OFD I assume this is an A1 restriction. The C1...

Re: Auto pilots in IFR trainers.
I think training should initially be conducted without any automation. However, once a pilot is at a commercial multi-IFR level, understanding the professional conventions of using automation is very important. Agreed. Not every IFR aircraft you run into in 70X operations will have an autopilot (SP...
