Re: EK DXB-MLE

I can second that, I doubt there would be any sort of performance issues on the DXB - MLE run. EK load factors are pretty high most of the time, but with it being low season in Male in June I don't think you'd have much of a problem especially with the frequencies. As mentioned, YYZ - DXB is a night...

Re: ATPL exams

Thanks for the replies everyone. I wrote both the SAMRA and SARON on Feb 22nd. I wrote SARON 7 and it had about 10 performance chart questions as well. Lot's of fine print and careful reading required, but the questions were fairly straight forward. I had one question about min alts in mountainous t...

Re: ATPL exams

Thanks Olegmagellan for the update. Nice work on the pass! Would you say that typically the SAMRA will be heavily Met orientated or is 60 questions on the subject unusual? When you say 15% of the exam you saw in the Aerocourse, is that just from the workbook? I'll be sure to brush up on the Met stuf...

ATPL exams

Hi everyone, I've done my due diligence and searched the forum for related threads but my question differs slightly to the others. I'm converting my foreign license (I am a born and bred Canadian, please don't hung up on my terrible choice for a username) so need to write the exams. This is my fourt...

Re: Middle East now open to Turbo Prop Pilots'

I think the bottom line is it just depends on what you're after. The smallest you'll fly in EK is the 330 and both the 330 and the 777 have excellent contract prospects in the far east which would give you the opportunity to commute home for the same if not more money than what EK pays. It won't be ...

Re: UAE hopefull on more landings to Canada

A genuine question here. Is there really a huge difference between EK or EY having unlimited rights and feeding thousands of passengers a day between India and Canada versus Air Canada flying to FRA a few times a day and then LH completing the journey for the same thousands of passengers? Isn't that...

Re: New Cathay Pacific Deal

More and more are turning it down, so hopefully they will improve the conditions! I went to Hong Kong last week to have a look around and man is it a cool place, but you really really need the pre 2008 housing allowance. On average, if you want to live in something half the size of what you probably...

Re: Tax issues from working Overseas

Thank you everyone for the kind and prompt replies. I've been doing some serious digging on the matter and I think that maybe my situation is slightly different to the examples above in that I am considered a resident of another country through the tax treaty. I've sent off a complicated form to the...

Tax issues from working Overseas

I'm hoping that some of you won't mind giving me your two cents on working overseas and paying taxes in Canada. When I first started working overseas I never had a problem with taxes in Canada because where I was working I always paid more tax than I would in Canada, but now I've moved somewhere whe...

Re: New Cathay Pacific Deal

As said above, this new offer truly is at best a C scale effort. However, if offered for an interview, definitely go. They're clearly testing the waters to see how many people they can get who are blinded by the cathay name and willing to accept these terrible conditions. Once that pool dries up, th...

Having read just how many hours WestJet averages per class, just curious what sort of averages sunwing is getting? Anyone with 3000ish hours getting a look? If so, what kind of time do you have?

Re: My new hero:

I've actually done a job for this guy and he is larger than life. Stories of his crew being thrown in jail and sending food from the Hilton to their cell otherwise they don't get fed, engineers making quick work of a 777 fuselage by drilling over 20,000 holes in it (he flew it anyways) and having no...

Seeing as you have not specified any other variables then I would say a310 100% heavy jet time will chock up better than any of the others.

Re: Jetstar?

I brought this up in another thread. Jetstar is a LCC subsidiary of Qantas with terms & conditions far below what you'd get at their mainline. If you want to be a pilot for Jetstar, well you better come type rated or else you have to pay. We're talking at least Jetsgo prices if you are experienced;...

a320 sim to obtain Canadian CPL conversion

Hi everyone, Currently flying overseas on the 320 and exploring the best avenues for getting my conversion done. First off, is it possible for someone to satisfy the CPL and ME/IR flight tests in an a320 sim for a conversion? It's been a long time since I've flown a piston and could use any spare ca...

Re: Coming to Canada

Grab the right to live and work in Canada - that's your first step. Unfortunately there are a ton of very experienced and very competent Canadian pilots out there so the airlines really can pick and choose from the guys who tick all the easy boxes (easy boxes in the airlines view) - right to live an...

I applied there and never got the call. I was disappointed at the time as it seemed awesome, but obviously it was for the best. Slightly off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone could elaborate a little more on the effects of the additional radiation and what to look out for? Personally without knowing any of the specifics, command 100%. As mentioned above several times, that could easily change in a hurry with a few more details.
