Re: Motivation to Teach
When I was instructing at the local FTU, we were paid by the flight and ground hour and for each ground school class. We wouldn't bill just to answer questions, but if it became obvious the guy required further instruction, we would suggest a ground briefing on the subject. Answering questions was f...

Re: I hate the radio.
The air force isn't always right but it does a good job overall of training the best. It could be that the current crop in MJ are taking their cues from the parallel crop of civilian instructors...when it comes to babbling on the radio. From what I have heard, I do know that the Phase 1 and 3 train...

Re: Dear YKF flight instructors
I used to fly out of CYKF about 15 years ago. National Flyer's Academy Katanas used to fly circuits so wide you could fly a Learjet inside. I haven't flown there recently so I can't comment on the current situation. However, it is reminiscent of days gone by. I recall one conversation over the radio...

Re: Helicopter Flight Training
Seems to me that the best way to get a job in rotary wing is via the Air Force.... More students are put on Phase 3 helo than multi or jet.

Re: Allied Wings - Flight Dispatcher
From what I've seen, the company is pretty decent, and the dispatchers seem happy. They are kept quite busy - Monday to Friday sched with occasional evenings for night flying and Saturdays for additional flying if CF courses get behind. I have no idea what they get paid.

Re: Allied Wings Flight Instructor
There has been a lot of growth in the company over the last few years, so many new hires. The number of instructors at AW has pretty much doubled since 2008. Phase 2 instructors are typically drawn from the available pool of Phase 1 instructors, so any growth in phase 2 means hiring at the phase 1 e...

All this has happened before.... Almost seems like a resurrection of the X-30 or HOTOL projects from the 80's...

Re: Allied wings instructor, fighter pilot opportunity?
To shed some light on some of these issues: At present there is no opportunity to fly the King Air other than as a ground based sim instructor. As has already been mentioned, this may possibly change in the future, but for the present, Phase III multi-engine is purely military instructors for the in...

Re: Jazz stable place to go for AME with recession coming?
Jazz has also attempted insourcing of maintenance at YXU. Imagine having another company working in your hangar on your machines and doing your work, but getting paid twice as much to do it.... If they really want to keep people there, they need to pay them what their worth. $13 per hour for apprent...

Winnebago paint jobs? I've never heard them called that before.....
The old brown and orange on beige scheme could have used shag carpet and disco balls to finish the retro look!

Re: FLIGHT COLLEGE PILOTS V.S. FLIGHT SCHOOL PILOTS.
Flying ability is based solely on the individual. I've met excellent pilots on both sides. College grads have the reputation for being cocky, but the people at the FTU I trained at weren't any better. I find that the cocky pilots usually have the worst skills. Colleges and FTU's each have their pro'...

Re: Jazz loses engine cowling YHZ
There's a service bulletin to get the grommets and camloks changed on the upper and lower halves of the cowlings. Whenever they go in for heavy checks, the parts get replaced. I don't know if that's what caused the cowling to come off this time, but I'm pretty sure that's why there's a service bulle...
