Re: Resumes and Cover Letters Redux
When you say 1 page, you mean just the resume itself, right? I've always used a 3-page format - cover letter, resume, references as a single 3 page pdf document

Conversation between a captain and an f/o at my company:
F/o: Can I use your approach plates? my ipad just died.
Captain: No, you should have thought of that before you relied on your ipad. Now brief me the approach

engine start mode in series/parallel
my electrical theory is weak. what is the difference between starting engines in series versus in parallel mode? my SOP's say that all starts should be in parallel unless maintenance is consulted. any idea why?

wow things get sidetracked on here fast. the post was just meant to be a friendly heads up to fellow pilots/wannabes, not necessarily a discussion on the pros and cons of perimeter or ramp work.
having said that, i laughed my ass off at the sewer tube in sham town remark. cheers

how come if there's an RVR you need 1200 (or 1200 & 600) but if there's no RVR or it's U/S you can shoot the approach regardless of the reported ground vis? like if the RVR was down and the metar or otherwise reported ground vis was 0 miles, you could still try to get in...

You might be a freight dog if…
found this on the net You might be a freight dog if… • Your airplane was getting old when you were born. • You have not done a daylight landing in the past six months. • ATC advises you of smoother air at a different altitude, and you don’t care. • When you taxi up to an FBO they roll out the red ca...

a search of older posts from 2004 - 2008/9 say ramp wait time is approx 2 years. i assume that hasn't changed too much? seems like a decent company to work for if you can handle the wait.
thanks

Re: best AME college in ontario?
i would like to do a bit of everything, which i think is just called AME, or AME-M? otherwise probably engines. i'm not especially interested in avionics or structures specifically. what types of AME licenses are out there? i've heard of AME-M, AME-S, AME-E - which i assume are maintenance, structur...

Re: Fellow Instructors
i've been looking for awhile now too. emailed CV's to almost every flight school in canada (minus quebec) and called a few too. emailing resumes is a long shot, but considering it's free and just takes a bit of time, probably worth it. i also visited as many schools as i could which in the GTA is qu...

Re: Cabinet Maker (CAF Aviation)
i was wondering the same thing... maybe because the job market is so bad they thought there must be a pilot out there who is unemployed and has carpentry/cabinet making experience and who will also most likely work for peanuts.

Re: Question about flying in (South) Africa.
there's a good thread on pprune. it's done as a kind of journal of a guy who went to Africa looking for a flying job. it's very thorough and interesting, and i still haven't found the time to read the whole thing.

Re: ramp positions issues
i think one of the major problems out there is the competitiveness of the industry itself. with flight schools, airlines, and bush operators competing for each others' respective business, companies are forced to cut costs which in turn filters down to pilot training and wages (among many other thin...
