Re: The Flying Firemen - who were they?

I was talking to a mutual acquaintance this past summer, and he said Cat Driver was doing good. Slowing down a little.

Re: Replacement panel switches

Read Car 551.02 and Advisory Circular (AC) No. 571-024. What your trying to do is install a Non TSO part. If you can determine and have it signed off accordingly to part B of Car 551.02 that the switch you would like to use is "safe" Then I would guess you could use those switches. I would refer to ...

"Training bonds" 🤣🤣🤣.... 2) For those of you dumb enough to have signed one, not to worry, they're not legally enforceable for various reasons. Just quit and move on to a better job. Re: Ran out of Gas Thread

From TSB...... C-GRCA, a Cessna 152 operated by AFS Aerial Photography, was conducting a photo flight west of Lethbridge, Alberta (CYQL). After approximately 5 hours of flight time, the engine (AVCO LYCOMING, O-235-L2C) began to lose power and the aircraft started to descend. The pilot adjusted the...

Re: RII on props

From ANC010. For the purposes of this notice"flight and engine controls" includes all controls by which the propulsive force or flight path of an aircraft can be altered, and includes both primary and secondary controls. In my opinion, a propeller would be considered a "propulsive force". In the ca...

Re: Licensed M1, sheet metal, painter, facility handyman...$25 a/hr

I worked at that place a few years back for about a month in the winter. The " Quebecer" is originally from Belgium. He is a good guy actually, just trying to keep his head above the water like the rest of us. Has a family to take care of and means well. I couldn't take it anymore after a month beca...

Re: Is it just my company?

I feel for you, although the circumstances were different, I left a company many years ago after finally having enough. I commuted for 1.5 hrs each way for 5 years after I left. The drive wasn't all that bad and I eventually found another company only 45 minutes away. Fast forward to today and I do ...

Re: 2023 Season

The “good fit” is a very loose and dangerous term coming from a prospective employer. The complaints may be valid and a chipped shoulder/attitude problem is relative to management/ownership expectations (which should be extremely clear in the interview process). If you expect guys to be on call 24/...

Re: 2023 Season

Yes the pay is attractive enough, that we have guys asking if we are hiring in the maintenance side. We are very selective on who we hire mind you. They must be a good fit. We would rather work short handed, then take on a guy with attitude, chip on his shoulder, or just a plain ass complainer. Noth...

Re: 2023 Season

Yes lean is a good descriptor, We are fortunate we have a couple guys in our company who are coin operated and willing do longer shifts. I myself did a couple shifts of 3 weeks just to align with family commitments this spring/summer, but the standard 2 and 2 is pretty much written in stone. If we w...

Re: 2023 Season

We have been flat out since May on fires. Lots of Snowmen days. Done about 400hrs. I know of quite a few machines by various operators having been parked for 5 days due to pilots having to reset. Definite shortage of qualified pilots. We have managed to stay crewed maintenance wise.

You may have inadvertently given Ray the last names of the people in question, might help with the search.
Hahahaa, my mistake. Didnt see the . But hopefully the last names help a bit.

Re: Where's Joyce?

Sure your not talking about Karen Kronlund? She was CFI when I worked there in 1988-89 as a wet behind the ears apprentice under Steve O'Donohoe. If I remember correctly she was quite tall and slender. She had a funny way of saying the call sign on the Seminole. Mike Victor Victor. She would emphasi...

Re: How long do airplane tires last?

Cost of parts in general aviation are rising significantly. The tube life seems to be hit and miss. The cost of tubes now are as much as the tire itself. A standard tire and tube replacement for a 172 for example, using the cheapest options, would be about 290-300$ combined. Add tax and one hour lab...

Re: One dead, one injured in helicopter.maintenance accident

How could the pilot lose control of the tail rotor on the ground? From the gossip I have heard, The engineers were balancing the short shaft and some sort of failure with the yaw compensator and hydraulic system occurred. Balancing the short shaft you are no where near the tail rotor, but that's no...

I got mine 30 odd years ago before the new rules kicked in and managed to challenge the exam at the time. Today there are a couple schools that offer a course that I know of here in BC . Course is about 10 months long and counts towards the 36 month total experience requirement. North Island College...
