Re: Where AD compliance is difficult...
I know who you are...you said you failed an stc inspection because of noise in the headsets as soon as you turned things on..."instant fail" you said...they then "tweaked" it and fixed the problem. Tweaked it you say!  I remember...they simply disconnected a headset that had it's mic curl...

Wtf?
What if there is some...do you install another doubler. ?.again...??

Re: Where AD compliance is difficult...
Oh...so should I quit? This whole thread was inspired because a very experienced maintainer was unsure about a maintenance task, and asked my opinion. When I considered his observations, I entirely agreed with him, and was able to add some relevant knowledge, based upon a previous experience I had h...

Re: Where AD compliance is difficult...
AD's are approved data, and only the authority can alter or clarify them Alter but Clarify?? Whoa you're full of yourself... It's a simple inspection...the manufacture told you what to do and you still disagree...it's an INSPECTION. So what the doubler is there...inspect the area... And if you thin...

Re: Where AD compliance is difficult...
Ok this was exactly the scenario. Avionics manufacturer made a SB and it was covered under warranty. Units within a S/N range were affected. SB became an A/D Manufacturer became aware that certain S/N units they were covering under warranty did not require the SB because the change had been made dur...

Re: Where AD compliance is difficult...
If it were only a Service Bulletin, the manufacturer could tweak it, but once it becomes an AD, it's kinda like and STC, any change must be approved. See what you're saying but to play devil's advocate, AD's are usually produced in consultation with the Manufacture. In a lot of cases they are SBs...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Worked in a place across the water that had a system in place that removed all fuel from tanks when maintenance of any kind took place. Zero fumes ( other than normal)...fuel was removed by pump and carried away by hose to a holding tank. All of it done in the hangar every time an aircraft was broug...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
INDOOR DEFUELING PROCEDURES When an aircraft is scheduled for maintenance, the fuel system may have to be drained. Whenever possible, the aircraft should be defueled outdoors before it is moved into a hangar or maintenance tent. However, during routine maintenance disassembly, an unexpected conditi...

I don't get it HOPTWOIT..Even if their losses were covered, don't you think that not burning down their hangar would be a better outcome???
So all airplanes should just stay on the ground then?
I mean...if you're not safe you could crash...so let's just never fly?

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
...completely off topic TS Boot...it's you that brought insurance up. Was the fire even started by defueling in a hangar? Yes...it was started by an AME that simply unplugged and extension cord when fuel was being handled in the hangar. I have seen a training package for a folding step ladder.... ye...

it is a matter of what you (and your insurance company) consider acceptable risk... Really? Does your Adjuster have an office in your shop? Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Who am I to tell you that you can't. Uh...that's what my point was....and it's certainly not TCCA's place to say either. Fueling or de-fueling is no different at all as far as fumes go. I don't know what you mean by that And a 150 can be fueled or de-fueled safely in any hangar if the correct preca...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Unplugging a live extension cord on the ground around fueled aircraft in a hanger is a no-no let alone while defueling.
If any other maintenance at all is being done in the hangar it makes it very difficult to do it safely.
