Re: ATC Lifestyle Questions
Nav Canada pays your move. I have moved twice on Nav Can's dime and the expenses were never treated as a taxable benefit.

Re: Do you need a Cat 2 Medical for every position?
All IFR and tower controllers require a Cat 2 (or 1) medical. My understanding is FSS and FIC specialists do not require a medical. FSS (AAS and FIC) do require a medical. Every 3 yrs up to 40 and every 2 years after. Not as stringent as ATC (licensing and certification requirement differences). Re...

Re: Training Logistics Winnipeg -> Moncton FSS
FSS training is all regionalized. However, they have been sending some trainees to other regions who need them. Short staffed or to release people who have won bids to transfer to other regions. For instance, send a trainee who graduates out of YVR FIR to YWG FIR in order to release someone who has ...

Re: FSS pay scales
Just wanted to add a bit more info. The supervisors all sites are one level higher than those working the radios. The E site supervisors (F) scale is $72,140- $91,148 as well as some non op positions. Top non op position (G) $79,525-$101,684. Also, on May 1st 2016, you can add 2.5% to all pay scales.

The term broadcast may not have importance or meaning to some of you but it certainly means something to ATS. This is the ATS Forum after all.

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
The difference Rookie is that I talk on the radio for a living and take it seriously. When I pointed out your use of the word broadcast, all you had to say was that you didn't mean to use it in that context. Instead, you got mad and felt sorry for yourself and then blamed me for your ignorance. Unde...

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
You answered your own question. If you state the name of the ground station, you are directing communications, not broadcasting.

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
If you start your communications by saying "Boundry Bay Tower...." you're directing communications. If it's "Boundry Bay Traffic...." you're broadcasting. Look, I just saved you time. No need to get back to me or think about it anymore.

I'm pretty sure you don't Marconi. Pretty distinct difference in CAR's between a traffic broadcast and directing communications.

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
You used the term broadcast, not me. "Broadcasting" is used in MF's without a ground station or an ATF. It's specific in the CAR's reference. If you don't understand the terms you are using and somebody points out what the term means, or you realize you have used it wrong, use it as a learning exper...

Wow............ I was only replying to what you had written in your post. I'm not a mind reader. I'm not sure how I would have realized that you actually didn't mean "broadcast" when that is the term that you used, especially when the term broadcast actually means something specific in aviation. For...

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
Where exactly did I mention contravening CARS by broadcasting, or advocating of same, directly to other pilots in an operating MF environment? Isn't this a quote from your post??? +1. Hence my question. Not to mention repeating the same traffic to 3 different people can result in a lot of radio clu...

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
+1. Hence my question. Not to mention repeating the same traffic to 3 different people can result in a lot of radio clutter, which can mean # 4 can't broadcast in a timely manner. It's a some what, can be confusing (to new pilots) half control setup. When it's really busy it's worse than simple UC ...

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
When operating within a MF, it is your responsibility to see and avoid other traffic. It may suck at times but them's the rules. FSS has no responsibility and in fact no ability to separate traffic. Maybe get your facts straight. That is the FSS main responsibility, resolving traffic conflicts. Alt...

Re: Aircraft landing without other aircraft down and clear.
Oftentimes, i will hear a VFR pilot speaking to an FSS as if they were a Tower. FSS is advisory only for VFR traffic and the pilot states his/her intentions. IFR and VFR/IFR mix is , of course, another story! Huh?? What's the "another" story??? Same story. "Just my guess...." That's why I was askin...
