Re: Electronic Fuel Injection and Ignition: where's the catc
Yea, I have followed a few custom LS1 installed into aircraft on the internet. Yea they put out some serious power, the lowest factory stock rating was around 345hp or so, I can see that being tough on a gearbox, especially with the crankshaft turning at 5500RPM all day. Still, its my goal to one da...

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection and Ignition: where's the catc
Go with a "high tech" car engine instead. I've spent the last three decades having the "experts" tell me how superior car engines are. Not a single one on the field. Not quite true. There was one. I did the initial flight test on it (with the 2nd car engine - the first car engine, a Ford V6 was suc...

Re: NG Governing on a PT6
If you reach your max NG stop, the mechanical stop on the FCU, any further throttle input will do nothing, PT6s govern at 101.5%, and you should not need that much NG to make take off torque, if you do you either have other problems, or you are at a very high(6000 feet and up airfield) or you are in...

Re: choosing between M1 and M2?? for new beginner
I find you learn more with an M1 then an M2, I got my M1 first. I find that working on King Airs, Twin Otters etc will teach you a lot more then bigger stuff. There is more troubleshooting in the M1 world. My employer, who operates both M1 and M2 aircraft says that you can usually make a good M2 mec...

Re: Increasing Maintenance Decreases Reliability
I understand maintenance is a pain in the ass for owners, and I feel for them because they put alot of there hard earned money into getting there flying lisence, buying there aircraft etc, and thats why when I perform maintenance for private owners, I do it at a very reasonable price, which I wont a...

Re: Increasing Maintenance Decreases Reliability
maintenance needs to be done Sure - for stuff that is broken. Serviceable stuff does not need to be unnecessarily taken apart - and possibly put together incorrectly. Even if it is put together correctly, maintenance still wears stuff out. Old hardware gets more and more maintenance until it's even...

Re: Increasing Maintenance Decreases Reliability
I would like the peace of mind Buy an aircraft with 100TT and sell it when it has 1000TT. I guess, but the average private owner likely doesn't have the budget for such a new aircraft. At the end of the day, there are always going to be private aircraft owners, and the planes they own are always go...

Almost closer to 40, and no I'm nit a contractor either. Stay away from the ai...

Re: Increasing Maintenance Decreases Reliability
I agree that snags often arise immiedietly following an inspection, where I work we have many different aircraft types from King Airs to transport category planes, and often after a scheduled check there will be a few snags the next flight day, and often related to systems that needed to be disturbe...

Re: Twin Otter fuel problem
To find your bad probe, an easy way to do so, is to fill up a bucket with fuel, and place each probe into it, upside down, hooked up to the j block, and see which one does not read, or underreads. As far as your low level light coming on early that is almost always cause by a build up of debris in t...

Re: Question: Why do PT6A-27 engines run so much colder than
20s run hotter at min flow and idle but not much hotter at max power, maybe 30-50 degrees. More efficient hot section parts on the 27 better ct disc and guide vane, plus the extra horsepower really helps when you add load to the engine like running the generator.

Re: Anybody take Aircraft Maintenance Category M at BCIT?
I graduated BCIt 6 years ago now, started off as an Apprentice for $17 an hour, worked my way up, had some great adventures and now work a nice 4 on 4 off as well, I grossed $91,000 last year. If you work hard, show some integrity, listen when you need to listen, be willing to stick out those underp...

Re: AME's who are thieves Part Duh
@ Colonel Sanders, In all seriousness, I don't post often, but read some of the topics that come up on the forums here. It seems like you are always trying to rip apart mechanics and paint us all in a negative light. What is your gripe with mechanics? I don't know why you must constantly promote con...

Re: AME's who are thieves Part Duh
I enjoy ripping owners off. I have a few customers who saved for 20 plus years to buy a crappy old 152, and no nothing about it, much like colonel sanders knows nothing about airplanes, cars or tractors. Anyhow back to the story, so anyways these guys throw there life savings into the airplanes and ...

Air Tindi AME Questions?
Hey, I am just wondering if Air Tindi offers rotational positions for lisenced AME's with lots of Twin Otter and King Air time? What type of pay would one be looking at, if indeed they offer rotational positions? PMs welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!
