Re: YYC base WJ or commute to YVR AC

YVR 737/320 FO positions were being held by new hires, or very recently hired. When those on the list are trained, likely a newly hired pilot would easily hold a block. The issue is the training timeline. We are going flat out, but it always takes time to train the list. AC definitely has more, and ...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time

Flatpay rates need to double. The problem is the lottery system of new hire equipment assignments. If one class has all RP positions, and the following class has all 777 FO positions, who makes more money if flatpay is eliminated? Year 2 formula pay greatly benefits the junior class of 777FO to the ...

Re: AC Hiring

In response to what Rudder opined on a reserved seniority number for a held back Jazz pilot, I would suggest that this is a no go at this time. It is my belief, talking with those that I fly with and converse with, that there is little appetite from AC pilots to entertain the idea of reserved senior...

Re: Meanwhile in 'Merica

Are you suggesting that the WJ 787 pilots could conceivably stand up to the company only having the CA’s do the takeoffs and landings for a period of time?😎 Can you imagine the uproar when the WJ CA’s all deem, that in the interest of safety and under their command authority every leg should be thei...

Re: Rejecting a Job offer

Yes. I flew with an FO in 2019 who turned down their initial offer of employment in 2013. They said that they had what they thought were good reasons at the time. It was the poorest decision that they could have made they now admitted. Said that they regretted it every time they looked at an A320 an...

Re: Why is AC better than WJ?

AC’s hiring portal is now open for PILOT applicants.
They are asking for off the street and from Jazz.
Just a heads up if anyone is thinking that is the route they want to pursue.
Cheers

Re: Competing Union

Bede, I feel we are mostly on the same page. I feel that if a fellow pilot is using all of her sick days as a strategy, then, by definition and reason, maybe they should stay home. I’ve flown, as you have I’m sure, with the angry bitter person. It’s usually around contract negotiation time and the o...

Re: Competing Union

If you deem yourself as not fit to fly, then indeed book off.
Some years there may be days left , some years not. The thought process, and self assessment should not consider any sick day use company policy. I feel that too often the fear of breaking company policy holds too much sway.
Cheers

Re: Competing Union

Time to put on your big boy pants Bede. How do you define “fit to fly”, as it states in the CARS? You seemed concerned about facing company harassment. If someone asks you about your health and ability to work on a certain day, respond with “ I was not fit to fly”. There you go, problem solved. If t...

Re: ACPA getting rid of volunteers.........again?

Tony’s message was completely destroyed by his own inane ramblings of dropping bombs, and his level of respect for anyone not having faced live fire. Any chance that his message had of reaching his fellow pilots was destroyed by his ability to professionally and respectfully deliver it to his fellow...

Re: ATC and you

Wordstwice, I have to disagree and agree. Once cleared to land, the runway is yours. You can clear at whatever exit works the best. That being said, ATC has expectations on which exit they plan you to take and they formulate their plans/spacing based on that. But do you need to tell them? Nope. Don’...

Re: AC/TRZ Transaction Approved by TC - $5 per Share

I've paid very little attention over the past months. Working elsewhere so I'm good. I didn't want the merger. Transat was a better place to work. Period. But the writing was on the wall so I did want the merger for job security. Nothing else. If it happens, it happens. If not, so be it. But if it ...

Re: AC/TRZ Transaction Approved by TC - $5 per Share

Indeed, it is heavily laden with political influence. With the conditions placed on the AC buyout of AT now public, I think that there will be NO other suitors for AT besides the Videotron guy. If one was hoping that ONEX will swoop in and save AT after AC walks, I think that is highly unlikely. ONE...

Re: Is the Gripen E a real contender?

Cojoe, Taiwan purchased 66 F16V’s at 122 Million per. Bulgaria purchased 8 for 1.25 Billion, or over 100 Million per.Slovakia purchased 14 for 1.8 Billion. These purchases push the unit cost of a F16V to over 100 Million per unit, and not anywhere near the 12-35 Million that you have posted. If I re...

Re: Is the Gripen E a real contender?

Oldncold, A few corrections to your post. The F35 only has one engine in all 3 variants. The USN F35C has a larger wing, carries more fuel, has no internal gun, and has a lower rated G. It has 1 engine. Canada originally ordered 138 CF188’s, as they were known. Through attrition and cut backs, the R...

Re: Is the Gripen E a real contender?

Launchpad1, The F15EX is basically a F15SE without the canted tails. It is modeled on the F15 E. it has that the E’s heavy wing, and tandem seating. Except, the EX will be crewed by one pilot, with a hugely improved cockpit. It actually makes a lot of sense for Canada to look at this variant, if the...

Re: Is the Gripen E a real contender?

There’s no comparison between the Super Hornet, Gripen and the F35. You have to start thinking about things differently. It is no longer about gravel roads, rearming, and close in maneuvering, it is about network centric defence. The Gripen, while a fine 4th gen., is comparable to existing F16 block...

Re: Carbon tax announced December 2020

This is the beginning of the end of a viable economy in Canada. For those who live in Ontario and Quebec, you will see a huge reduction in manufacturing and production of goods. Why build in these two jurisdictions when a plant could be located in Ohio, Michigan, NY? For those who live in the Prairi...
