Seeking Night Video Near CJF8

Recently brought an obstruction lighting project online at the plant next to CJF8 in Biggar, SK. If someone is flying by at night I would greatly appreciate a short video.

Re: Buffalo C-46 at Deline.

It's been a lot of years since I flew the 46 but if I recall correctly the WWII vintage freighters did not have to meet engine out performance standards or accelerate / stop standards. V1 (89 kts ??) was usually 4000' - 4500' down a 5000' runway on a warm day. If the Aviation Gods decided it was you...

Re: Anyone know anything about Gimli (CYGM)?

I'm guessing IBX (C-46) is still sitting there - would be worth a look. What about any DC-3s or the old Saunders (sp?)?

Head down to the annual Pietenpol gathering in Brodhead, WI in July. I met a lot of Hatz owners and builders there. The Matronics lists may have something as well.

Re: Best Kept Secrets?? - Oshkosh Accomodation

I decided to go late (May) last year. Ended up in Madison at the Super 8. Little over an hour to the field on divided highway and had the benefit of a bigger centre for eating and boozing.

Re: Ancient Lady

Thanks HS-748 2A, that's the best one I've got so far! I have the Jerry Bates plans for the 46 and a partial wood kit. I hope to finish it sometime in the next decade - young kids put a bit of a damper on hobbies. :) I also flew TX as a cojo many moons ago before I gave up on flying for money. Still...

Does anyone have a line on a decent Corvair core? I'm slowly starting a Pietenpol project.

Paton Wilson

I'm very sad to pass along the news that Paton passed away late yesterday at his home. He retired from the Manitoba Government Air Service a little less than one year ago and has had a well deserved retirement cut short. He was a good friend and my deepest sympathies go out to his family.

Re: New Career

I'm another pilot who left flying for the railway. Flying was great in my 20's but I got into my 30's, got married, kids and decided that lifestyle and being alive to see my kids grow up meant more than airplanes. I can't speak for all railways but at the one I work for safety comes above anything e...

Some of the old timers will have to help me out with this one. Wasn't there a brief blip in the 70's or 80's when this sort of thing happened? A neighbor's brother was plucked out of Selkirk College by Canadian Pacific and put right seat on the 737. Took 17 years to go Captain if I recall the story ...

I heard that it's FNT. They're making so much money with the ol' 46's that they need some write offs and passenger ops on 1900s seemed the best way to go.
