Re: Listen for the WHOOSH

The vents on most GA light aircraft are simple. They allow slight and equalized positive pressure(good) and prevent negative pressure (bad). A bit of positive pressure helps ensure fuel is being delivered to the engine, with or without a fuel pump. Many light aircraft don't use a fuel pump, especial...

" In the aftermath, I learned that at rotation, my #2 engine had ingested a bird, causing near catastrophic damage and destroying the fan blades of the small J85 engine. "

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

I'm definitely no expert but comparing the jets to the "object" I'd say hawk, falcon or crow size...bigger then a sparrow but smaller then an eagle.
Maybe it was a drone, but it is most certainly gone once the jet passes, immediately followed by "pull up".
The engine in these is small as well,

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

These last 2 screen captures show pretty clear, and anything following there is no sign of the bird.

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

That's probably the best resolution for video that I've seen in the media. Has anyone else noticed the bird go into the right hand intake at 3:57 - 3:58.

Communication I received via e-mail "Imperial has become aware that aviation gasoline picked up by wholesale customers at Strathcona refinery in Edmonton since Dec. 28, 2017 may have a product quality issue. Please do not use or distribute this product. Our primary concern is that the product qualit...

Re: Things to keep in mind as an apprentice?

As for torque wrenches, AMO's will have controlled calibrated / tested equipment you should be using. Check with your supervisor about even having calibrated equipment of your own in your toolbox. Some outfits are OK with it and will pay to keep the calibration tests current on your personal equipme...

Re: Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 t

It was actually damaged quite nicely, not a cloud in the sky, lot's of audience, and severe bend in the spar, up about 45% just outboard of strut (corsair style). That wing won't fly again this week.

Re: Beaver incident in Nanaimo?

Even though the report says fog, I know we were experiencing snow off and on till late in the day. Visibility kept improving then dropping to near zero instantly. I wasn't onboard though so perhaps it was snow with fog over the water?

Re: ICS And Transport exams AME apprentice

I actually did the ICS course 30 years ago, and found it tough enough even though I was working in the industry at the time. Not much differance online, or via snail mail. The TC exams were fewer then and the cost was a whole lot more reasonable to write. I think I paid about $50 for the whole TC pr...

Re: Aircraft documents

Actually all of that. Ask your Transport guy...... If you don't have your AFM or your W&B report in a Beaver your not in conformance to the Type Certificate, and not legal. If your not in conformance with CAR's your not legal, and it's your C of A itself that has the conditions on it's face that tie...

Re: Aircraft documents

A little more fuel for the confusion... Your C of A will list the conditions that must be met for your C of A to be in force. First one on the list is item 5, after all the A/C particulars: 5. This Certificate of Airworthiness is issued pursuant to the Aeronautics Act and certifies that, as of the d...

Re: Beaver incident in Nanaimo?

Time for some facts. Sorry I haven't posted earlier, been to busy. Anyone involved will know who I am and my involvement with WCA. I have the pic's and NO they will not be made public. The being posted would serve no useful purpose for the pilot, the company or the west coast aviation community. The...
