Re: Float season duration?
I have seen quite a few people do this. Most of them were based out at lodges, who have a early to mid-september season end due to no moose hunt offered. Go for it, it's a great way to get going.

Re: Multi tools
Another vote for the leatherman wave. The charge looks like pretty much the same thing. You can flip the blade out with one hand without opening the pliers, a big plus over the gerber. I also found the steel to be superior to gerber's and holds an edge much better. After some years, the velcro on yo...

At least I hope its out before then, I hate dodging ice all spring. Last year's early breakup was awesome.

Re: 2011 Float Season
The industry is teetering on the brink of collapse. Maybe take a roadtrip through NWO. Personally, I think it is changing into the sort of way it used to be: more diverse. An operation can no longer focus solely on fishing outposts, as the generation most interested in that is getting smaller and l...

You know, I truly understand how you feel that way. I posted the comments without their original context, but just an excerpt from another conversation. I also wrote them in a very demanding tone because I was writing to someone who, remembering when I was in his shoes, might not listen when someone...

Some advice I shared...I should probably share it here too.
Someone on another forum asked for advice about an aviation career, and I replied. I will share it here in case someone may benefit from it. Enjoy. I'll give you a few quick answers, everything I am about to say has an important lesson, each being separate yet connected. Although I am rarely in a po...

Re: Buying a US registered plane
One common issue I can think of off the top of my head is that the FAA issues field approvals for modifications which are not recognized by transport canada. Apparently this bites a lot of prospective buyers.

Re: Supplemental Income
All of my entry level jobs required a constant time commitment. I was always at work. Employment on the side was not possible. However, you can put almost any skill to work much more easily than flying if you can afford a small commitment. I cannot speak for all flying jobs, so there may be some out...

Tax question re: moving expenses for seasonal drivers
This is the first year that I am claiming my moving expenses to go to work. I am curious about the experiences of others in regard to this issue. I have talked about the issue with a CRA agent, and was told that expenses from my move home in the fall cannot be claimed because it was not for the purp...

Re: Redneck Swiss at it Again
so you want to change the Canadian system to be like that of a foreign nation? Just like the people you "rebel" against. Maybe you need to adapt to our system? Or get out. Either way is fine with me.
With an attitude like that, we would still have a feudal system. Would you enjoy being a serf?

Northern Skies, they did try to impose a gun registry , Feb 12,2011. The Swiss have direct democracy. Something we in Canada desperately need. Yeah, I was following the story. It was a few whose huge egos enabled them to preach that their simplistic solution to a non-existent problem would justify ...

Re: Texas Leads Nation with Campus Firearms Carry Bill
Thank God there were armed people in Arizona to stop Gabrielle Giffords from getting shot. There were. Due to the crowd and lack of a safe shot, he was wrestled down instead. Incredible show of judgement and restraint. But then, you rarely hear about the numerous successful self-defence cases occur...
