Doc, my comment was suggesting that there would likely be little new about the accident gleaned from a picture. The media releases were pretty specific about the location of the wreckage and it correlates with a detailed map.

It might have been clear to others, but I've just realized that the news image of the screenshot with the pen pointing is actually not of the Beardmore Glacier and the accident flight. The flight track is of an aircft heading down the Koelitz Glacier adjacent to the dry valleys near McMurdo.

Knowing the logistics of supporting the rescue, the height, cold, ferrying in fuel to support choppers, weather delays and consequences of a further mishap to rescue aircraft I'm not at all surprised by this decis...

That lat/lon shows up as a ridge line (ending in a 2740m 'knoll').

The broken lines indicate the edge of the glaciers.

If that lat/long is correct then its on a spur descending almost due east from the southern end of Mt Elizabeth. It's between the 2400 and 2600m contour.

Mt Elizabeth is 3.5nm to the NW at 4480m and its north peak 3.5nm due north of the site at 4389m.

The ski twins I fly are in the air below VMC (an approved procedure).
