Re: So much for growth
Does anyone remember that Boeing wasn’t doing so well not too long ago? Imagine if someone bought a pile of MAX 8’s for $35 million each back then (to be delivered in the future). Imagine as they were being delivered to you now that you could sell them to a leasing company for $60 million and you co...

Re: These new duty rules are going to be complicated…
Well, I disagree. From CARs: flight crew member on reserve means a flight crew member who has been designated by an air operator to be available to report for flight duty on notice of more than one hour. You are either on duty or free from duty. One or the other. If on reserve, it counts as 1/3 as f...

Re: These new duty rules are going to be complicated…
Except reserve only counts 1/3 towards duty. From CARs: A flight crew member’s hours of work are to include (a) in the case of a flight crew member on reserve, 33% of the time that they are in a reserve availability period. So the 5 days reserve in Paris would only be 20 duty hours. Not to mention t...

One positive comment from Palebird. Ever. Sit back and have a nice sip of scotch dude. We are all hangry in Canada. Be happy there are more 705 positions and we can go from there. If you want to complain about Canadian expansion, at least give us a reason why new companies/expansion is bad, not just...

Re: Flying to Mexico
Private or commercial? You need to call FBO and choose handler down there. $100 USD tip when there makes everything better. They will deal with all Mexico stuff. Basically they need GENDEC, outbound ICAO flight plan, fuel release, and money. There are other issues there such as insurance specificall...

Phone in medical
There are, I believe, 2 exemptions due to COVID that would allow phoning into a CAME for your medical renewal. I am not taking about the letter of attestation from last year. I understand that at least one of the major airlines is using this for their pilots. Is anyone doing this that doesn’t have a...

All union contracts are available online.

First Air has a somewhat complicated pay scale. My calculations show 2018 737 Captain top pay to be about $179k.
But I could be way off.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this: If, because of unforeseen operational circumstances, such as stipulated in section 14.5.1, the duration of the flight duty time and/or the duty period is excessive, the FCM is entitled to the following premiums: Regular crew Flight Duty Time Premium (gross) E...

Re: Why is Flair so Hated?
None of Flair aircraft have 160 seats from what I know. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. Pay is not the determining factor in what defines scab workers. It brings up a new confusing issue for me though. So if a 1900 pilot makes $70k for 19 seats...how much should a 37 seat pilot make before bein...

Re: Why is Flair so Hated?
When I look at the Flair posted pay and then the Jazz pay shown on one of the pilot salary websites, it seems that Flair is paying substantially more than Jazz.
It makes some of the arguments on this thread very confusing.

URC,
I was booked on WJ from YXX New Years Eve. Flight was cancelled and I had to stay the night on my own dime. No explanation given.
Should WJ be working on getting their domestic operations working also?

VFR go arounds were concern enough to be discussed at the recent ALPA Safety Forum in DC. VFR approaches are very handy for everyone involved. There are no consistent procedures in Canada for going around when visual. I've been caught before when I was positive I would remain visual throughout maneu...

Re: FlyDubai 737 (Rostov-on-Don, RU)
Nark, I don't know if go around was an issue in this approach, but I do have some concerns with go arounds in 737's. Every company will have different procedures (and there are differences between Classics/NG's). Simplest is dual AP Approach on an ILS (or LPV). Push TOGA once and AP/AT stays engaged...

Hahahaha!
121.5:
"Where is he?" (Imagine in a drawn out, sweetly asking male voice)
Few mins later:
"Where is he?"
Few mins later again:
"Where is he?"
Then the inevitable:
"YOU'RE ON GUARD!"
First voice again (sounding very satisfied):
"Ahhh, there he is."
Thanks for the laugh TT.

I have a question for you Sulako. You seem like a nice guy. It seems like a a good place to work. I assume the pay is pretty good and all that stuff. So we have have: Nice plane; Nice boss; Big city location; Nice schedule; and Nice pay. So with all that, a bond is still needed. The question is, has...
