RCO's on 126.7

I was wondering if anybody can think of a good reason why Nav Canada has RCO's set up on 126.7? I had to air-file a flight plan the other day and get some weather and couldn't find a discrete frequency within range, and the only RCO I could get an answer on was on 126.7. I had no choice but to tie u...

And trust me when I say that security guards are well trained not only for pass recognition... I'm sure this is true, but the system sure isn't foolproof. I once found a coworker's pass that had been left in an airplane. I put it in my flight bag intending to return it, and later put it on by mista...

Look for Gillam Air's Islander (GSAD) near the beginning of the movie. Ya, they stiffed Harvey for $2000 on that charter, after keeping the airplane for longer than was agreed. (they had it in a hangar surrounded by trucks, there was nothing I could do about it) I think everyone should sneak in for...

I once flew from Nanuk to Churchill low level with 6 hunters on board. Got some National Geographic quality photo ops of about 50 - 100 polar bears, as well as a pod of Beluga whales and a herd of caribou enroute. I then cirled the Fort before I landed. No tips there, so I wouldn't count on much eit...

I was taking a load of groceries to Nanuk once, via the "scenic" route, maybe a little lower than I should've been  . As I passed by York Factory, I startled a moose that was hanging out south of the river and it started swimming across the river. I dropped the stuff off in Nanuk and by the ti...

Ya, used to be. Those certainly were the best parts of the job. I would say my best flight was when I let an old WWII bomber pilot fly from Nanuk to York Factory (except for the landing...) The look on his face was priceless, especially when I took control so he could look out the window as we buzze...

Used to fly there in '02 in an Islander. Peanut and the gang actually have a pretty nice strip carved into there, about 2000' long now. Great scenery. As far as I know Jim and Betty have come out of retirement once again to keep the fort looking brand new.

I don't know that the one page thing is a "rule" exactly, since every HR person has their own likes and dislikes. Some may care, others won't. Here's what I've noticed though: As I've gained experience, my resume has actually gotten shorter. I guess it's because after a while your logbook speaks for...

So if the trip itself isn't done for hire or reward, but the pilot is compensated, do they still require an OC? I've been doing a little research and the idea seems to be similare to how Siguffson Northern Limited in Manitoba does it: They have airplanes operated by professional pilots, but the airp...

Flying privately registered aircraft "commercially"

Hi there: I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight or a CARS reference re. the legality of the following scenario. A person owns a privately registered aircraft, and flies himself and coworkers around on company business, without compensation, except possibly for expenses incurred. As fa...

Snoopy: You may be right, however the way I understand it the whole process is a "homeland security" thing, not a licensing thing. What Snoopy said is all similar to what I was told by an FAA inspector when I asked the same thing. Two other things he mentioned to me might help as well: For conversion rides, many FAA examiners will give you what's known as a "courtesy" flight, meaning not too intense; just to make sure you can a...

Thanks for all the replies folks. Doc, I'll ask about the 320 thing, out of curiosity. It turns out he has access to an Aztec that's pretty well maintained, just a bit more expensive and with this info it sounds like that's the way to go.

Cheers, safe flying all!

Question for 310 drivers

Hi there: A friend of mine is doing contract work for an airline in the states flying parts around and he needs use of a quick light twin. He got checked out in a C310 and found the controls extremely heavy, especially on landing. Also, it took almost all his strength to steer the thing on the groun...

I had mach tuck in an islander once. Scary stuff. I didn't plan my descent properly and only started down from FL 015 about 5 miles back, and the airspeed kinda got out of control.
