I have no idea on how to get your balance decreased other than paying it off. Although all of the interest paid on a government student loan is a tax write off. They will send you a receipt at the end of each year for all interest paid.

Paid $40 for mine also (Nov 07'). Had a buddy just do his and it cost him $180(Apr 08').

A couple of Cessna factory pilots showed me that flap technique in the Caravan. Their method was to start with zero flap, apply power slowly with no back pressure at all, the nose would come up on it's own, then hesitate for a second or two before rising to it's final position. Why pilots are in such a frantic hurry to reduce power, hands all ablur in the cockpit immediately after takeoff mystifies me. I don't like to reduce power until I have some altitude. If the noise pisses off a moose, or a schoolteacher, so be it. So if the engine has a 5 minute take-off power limit...

A DUI will not affect insurance rates on an airplane and the chances of not getting an entry level job because of one is not likely. The hardest thing you will have to worry about is getting a ride to the airport or seaplane base. I wouldnt worry about it.
