Re: So I'm standing there getting chewed out by Transport Ca

Haven't been on here for a long while but this thread prompted me to. I had the pleasure of the original poster attending a number of events that I hosted in another life and in each case directions were followed to the letter and there was never anything close to an issue. If I ever get back to doi...

Thanks for catching that, comment corrected.

Dealing with MLA on another matter...oops.

Re: The beginning of the end of small private airstrips

I've set up a meeting with my MP as a first step to getting my concerns on the table.

Would suggest others interested in these developments do the same.

Re: Gov't of Alberta Aircraft Sold

I hate to split hairs but... and the government sold them for more than asking price Actually in a tender (or auction for that matter they are over the minimum reserve set by the government. Minimum reserve is typically considered the minimum price they are willing to live with (loss or not) as oppo...

Re: newly expired pilot license

Thanks for posting the form Aeros

Mine expired (a while ago) and I need to get it sorted and renewed.

Habs.Fan Anyone can spend 40 hours/week going to class and then studying and coming out 3 years later with a student loan and a paper to put on the wall - it's the ones that bust their asses in clubs, societies, at events and conferences and part-time jobs that end up with the employment at the end ...

Re: Sorry you Alberta pilots, you can't fly in the USA

Whatever happened to letting traffic know where YOU are? When I am flying the Museum Biplane I am aware it's slow and (relatively) low so on a cross country every so often I will give a position report with a landmark, height and course. When I'm entering an uncontrolled circuit I give a position re...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Shiny Didn't want to clutter the meat of my response with covering this. I used my friend as an example of the problem but it would have been a bad wager... I would wager that your friend ultimately only had a passing interest in flying - but had the luxury to spend money to taste test it, and supre...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Seems so and could be because my experinece is spread across multiple market places. I wouldn't make the assumption that mine's not. In particular I like to visit flight schools, and have sampled the wares across this country and even south of the border. That's both as customer and provider. I was...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Shiny I guess I can say that your experience and mine have been substantially different. Seems so and could be because my experinece is spread across multiple market places. I would only argue that the market that you're referring to can't be tapped. Ultimately in spite of all their other qualities,...

Pop... I recall you're in Alberta Right now there are some killer deals (25k and under) on older light aircraft and homebuilts...check it out, but be sure anything (including the Cub) you get a pre purchase on that is done from someone you trust. If you're heart is already set on the Cub and it ain'...

More importantly and back to the point of the discussion... There is a significant market out there that will and does pay well for services they perceive value in. My experience is: - They don't expect to be cowtowed to - They don't expect fancy They do expect: - Clean, neat and organized - To be t...

Shiny First, and obviously, not all instructors are "half his age", so he probably didn't shop around much. Depends where you are and he is no spring chicken...our black and white TV era. Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Shiny I would say that those who are interested, are possibly interested from an early age, maybe from when they first are cognizant of an airplane flying overhead. But there are far fewer of those than 20-30-40 years ago when rec aviation was growing. Most see the International Airport. Few, in sma...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Shiny But most people would do more than check the phone book and the web if they were looking to buy something they were really interested in. We agree to an extent: How do they know they are really interested if they are not exposed to it other than an idea and glossy magazines... Much like the Cl...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

I think a big part is they don't know...they do the flight school routine, hear the numbers (licence, newer certified acquisition, hull coverage, hangarage and maintenance) and fall over. Its that case again that for some reason, people don't shop when it comes to flight training and recreational f...

Re: Informal data on licenses and flying

Shiny The problem with the RPP I find in selling it is people's expectations. Most recreational flyers want really to be able to take a buddy out and zoom around the local area, but they want to have that dream that they're going to pack up the family and go on a Vegas vacation in the plane they own...
