Re: Turbulent times for WJ ahead?

Matrix why the exuberance and relief over someone saying AC is doing crappy. I don't get it. Sorry that's not what I meant. I'm very interested in the business side of airlines. I don't have the background to really dig through the financials like he does. I look forward to his analysis every quart...

Re: Turbulent times for WJ ahead?

You are looking at the number you are being steered to, not the number that matters. $1.22b is an "adjusted" number. Unless every one in the industry "adjusts" their numbers with identical methodology, it's meaningless. EBITDAR this and EBITDAR that. They used the term 21 times in their earnings re...

Re: Behchoko Crash NWT??

Anyone else listen to the ATC tape? He declared a mayday stating he was having control issues. Never heard anything about an engine failure. From what I could hear, he was on his way back into YZF, he had encountered severe icing at 8000 and was having trouble maintaining altitude. Nothing about en...

The WestJetter will have to cancel that buddy pass and re-gift it under the correct name.

Re: Westjet 737NG's ??

If true this is bad. No replacements until 2017 or so. That means total tails for the 737 fleet at end of 2014 and into 2015 at sub 100. Whip Saw. Hope I'm wrong. JJJ Whoa there. When the sale to WN was announced, they also announced a new order of 10 737-800s This year they will get 7 737s and sel...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011

I get it that something obviously went wrong. But if you look at the (limited) transcript, there are basically 2 people having different opinions. Captain says all is OK. FO says there is something wrong. In the end, it turns out the FO was right. But why is this considered a total breakdown of CRM...

Re: Boeing 737-800LR

Never seen or heard of 800LR before. The newer 800s have a short field performance package but I don't think it gets any better range.

Also, the Dublin flights are going to be operated by -700s only.

In my case, our COM states we should attempt to maintain validity of the alternate, so not a CARS requirement, but a company one.

Re: Sliding scale alternate weather

As a dispatcher for 10 years of TypeA/B systems, I can assure you that pre-planning an alternate based on sliding scale is almost never done. I don't think I've ever needed to do it. The only time this is used is if enroute, your alternate wx changes and you may need to use the sliding scale to keep...

YYT-DUB is 600nm shorter than YVR-OGG. Don't see why the inflight service should change one bit. missing the point a bit but nevertheless spoken like a shareholder I can respect that.......
