Re: owner maintenance

There's no special magic involved. Well, a bit of magic would be required.... If your aircraft is registered as OM, the C of A will have an "X" on the aircraft serial number, which will match the "X" which was stamped into the aircraft data plate at the time of application. It will be magic to conv...

Re: 100 hour inspections

I'm with the majority here as a full 100 hour inspection is not required but more than just oil changes. As PilotDAR mention a lot can be visual checks. If you are flying 200 hours per year then at 100 hours after the annual a AME would spend about 2-3 hours doing a service and inspection if nothin...

Re: 1974 Piper Warrior I - Maintenance Schedule Spreadsheet

Dont forget CAR 625 Appendix C for the out of phase tasks (I am assuming this is what the OP was getting at).

Re: owner maintenance

Not sure you will get a straight answer as the program was designed to NOT convert the aircraft back. Lets look at why; Modifying the data plates requires Minister approval, Having an AME inspect ALL aspects of the aircraft; any history of modifications and parts installed against the type certifica...

Re: Sources for maintenance manuals?

Tell me how you intend to use anything other than current Manufactures manuals when 571.02 clearly states; (1) Subject to subsection (2), a person who performs maintenance or elementary work on an aeronautical product shall use the most recent methods, techniques, practices, parts, materials, tools,...

Re: Weekend Annuals.

FYI; Refer to Standard 625 App B - Maintenance Schedules; Each person performing inspections required by the maintenance schedule shall record the inspections in the aircraft technical record, using a check list that includes all items in Parts I or II that are applicable to the aircraft concerned. ...

Re: Components

Keep in mind, overhauling components will require an AMO certificate - that in itself is a huge hurdle to overcome. If you haven't been able to come up with an idea of what you want to repair (overhaul) good luck proving it to the regulator by means of a Policy Manual. I do believe TCAS stated it be...

Re: PA28 cracked top wing skin

Very familiar with this type of damage. Review CAR 571 Schedule II. Chances are the wing stringer has failed (as in the area of the door entry - wing walk) and will require an appropriately rated AMO to repair. Last one we did cost the owner upwards of $5000 including parts from Piper (corrugated st...

Re: ram stc

Per 625 Appendix C: "No hard time, including calendar time, between overhauls need be observed in the case of small aircraft reciprocating engines in non-commercial private operation." Depends on what type of maintenance schedule you are using. If you are an air operator - this is a bad place to ge...

Re: Engine not run for 3 years 0-320

Back to lurking, came across this post; At the very least (and required by CAR 625 App B Part I item 4(m) Internal corrosion - inspect engines which have not been inhibited and have been out of service in excess of 12 months.) Best I have found to accomplish this is to remove 1 cylinder per bay and ...

This is what has driven me back to AVCANADA - What the hell is going on here?
As of today another threat. Is it a motive to disrupt WestJet? Perhaps the talk of unionizing has gone to an extreme level?

Re: Legality/Liability of freelance work on GA aircraft

Refer to CARS 571.02 for maintenance. You will see that the same rule applies to ALL aircraft; any person who performs maintenance or elementary work on an aeronautical product shall use the most recent methods, techniques, practices, parts, materials, tools, equipment and test apparatuses.

Wow, this thread is a real eye opener for anyone considering becoming an AME. I was enrolled to be an AME at SAIT back in 2004 but after talking to several people I decided to go a different route instead and withdrew. Now, I'm a licensed automotive technician and I just find it crazy that it pays ...

Re: choosing between M1 and M2?? for new beginner

I just want to add, seeing as no one really stated the obvious; M1 is essentially for private small (under 5000kg) aircraft, M2 is more commercial aircraft. And in any commercial environment, your licence is a way to get your foot in the door where the AMO will issue you ACA privileges. It will stil...

Re: AME Shortage

Being in the maintenance industry for 20+ yrs, i have noticed a shortage of AMEs these past 5 or so years. The problem is simple, very much like pilots; the wages are terrible. With the boom in the Alberta economy, what is the incentive? Ive worked for all parts of aviation except airlines, but have...

$75-$100 to do a compass swing? Thats about an hour shop labor...really? I think you may want to go elsewhere and have it done. I usually do compass swings in conjunction with Tachometer checks, run up checks, mag drop, etc...and i can guarantee that i dont take an hour getting all those tasks compl...

You have to be honest about your career - if youre not going to pursue aviation trade, theres no point in finishing your exams - remember to keep current you need 6 months experience in 2yrs to maintain your liscence - thats over 900hrs(450hrs per year) you need to prove (log, invoice, or other mean...

Workplace liasons

How common is it out in the industry for a couple of coworkers to have relationships? What about people who are married having affairs with thier (co-)pilots? Is that something that is acceptable for a company to allow that a couple of their pilots are having marriage problems, and carrying on with ...
