Re: Will Westjet survive?

WestJet (in its current form) will not survive. WestJet is faced with a massive payout to those who are set to be moved from LOA to layoff in September. A group layoff (50 or more) entitles those being laid off with 16 weeks notice or payment in lieu. The first batch (about 5000) will be laid off S...

Re: One List

Ha!, get rid of the one list is shouted out!. Well the fact of the matter is WestJet, Swoop, and Encore ARE all one list now for all intensive purposes. So give it a rest. The most junior Encore FO has 4 years in, and the most junior CA has 6. The majority of Encore is comprised displaced Mainline....

Re: A "NEW" One List?

I think the short term concession MMG of 55 or even 50 would have been given for a longer MOA pretty easily, I could see differing the ESP until certain metrics are met by the company. But waiving the ESP (basically our retirement savings) for a longer term tied to any relaxing of scope on Swoop or ...

Sounds like Swoop CEO Steven Greenway is gone. I wonder what that means ...
I would expect Swoop will be disbanded.

Re: Swoop CRM Class Shutdown by Police

The very fact Swoop is still even running is crazy. WestJet is down to 57 aircraft (30 of them Q400’s), burning through millions of $’s a day-but can still find cash to blow on Swoop. Your telling me there is enough capacity to run a WJ 700 (800’s are parked) between YYZ-YVR AND a Swoop 800 between ...

WJ just layed off 7000. That’s half the airline. How many employees does AC have?

Re: Grab a seat. The music is stopping

I can also see Flair and Swoop having a hard time because of this... with their prices they need excellent load-factors, and that's not going to happen if people need to save their pennies to pay off debt incurred by this whole shit-show. I disagree, low cost carriers are the ones who are least imp...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

It gets worse, word out there is that SWOOP just cancelled the latest planned training course and is sending the last tail number delivered back to the lease company (or wherever it was coming from) The Swoop tails are owned by WestJet as far as I know, so WestJet would be the lessor. WestJet may b...

Re: Swoop Terrain Warning

The SOP’s at Swoop are very similar to WJ’s and hopefully the new DFO doesn’t mess with it. I understand the desire to align to the Boeing ones, but Swoop is embedded (as extremely frustrating as that is) in the ‘WJ Group’. So Encore pilots flow into Swoop, then into WJ when they can hold it. Encore...

Re: One List

So how does this affect the Swoopers? Safe in current positions for now.... But with a reduction bid coming in the second half of 2020, likely bumped into the right seat till every qualified encore person turns down the left seat at swoop. Before we tee up any 2020 reduction bids we’ll have to see ...

Yes co-joe it is pretty f’d up.

And you will be charged for a coke, only water, tea, and coffee are free for flight crew. Once you’ve sold your self respect for the job you can put the $ toward your coke 😉

Re: One List

It’s actually still around 8 years, and would be even hire except so many bypass the upgrade to stay out west instead of moving/commuting to YYZ.......unless you are including Swoop, then there is no wait required at all-what a mess.

Re: Swoow in-person interview

I’m a ‘gumpy apple’, it’s obviously easier to get hired at Swoop then WJ or Encore-because it’s a crap operator. So maybe the same interview process, but with lower expectations. A great gaping back door into ‘the Westjet group’. So fill your boots and bring your white shirt.

Re: Swoop

The original poster is correct, he is better off an Encore captain. Better Sched, benefits, jump seat, travel benefits, uniform, won’t get charged to drink a pop whilst in command of a 50 million $ aircraft, etc, etc

Maybe a pulse check, and you need to provide your own white shirt I believe, maybe mention you have more then one in the interview (you can get a loan and buy more if they hire you)

Re: Commuting with Swoop

When I left there was no ability to jump seat on Swoop even though you flew there. The PTA (pilot transfer agreement) should be resolved one way or another soon enough. You most likely will be better off going to WJ/Encore in regards to commuting, schedule bidding, fatigue mitigation, support, benef...

Re: ONEX plans

Because it removes Swoop from the WJ group, it is an arbitrated anchor in our agreement and point of division in our group. Not by pilot group making, but certainly created by management. The fact that there are hundreds pilots eligible to bid into Swoop from WJ/Encore and they are advertising here...

Re: Commuting with Swoop

I commuted on Swoop for about a year. I averaged 9-11 hotels a month, and had to pay stand by travel on WJ (around $12-1500 a month after tax $’s). You cannot use the jump seat on WJ or Encore, nor can you use any of the WJ reciprocated jumpseats. Swoop is not particularly commuter friendly, not to ...

Re: Sunwing hires Swoop

There is no 12 year pay scale at Swoop. Any growth at Swoop (flying Sunwing peeps, or ‘Swoop Vacations’) is totally out of WestJet. Selling empty seats to your competitor (for I am guessing pretty cheap rates) sounds more like looking for change under the sofa cushions. Swoop is still the same crap ...

Re: ONEX plans

They are looking for a lot of FO’s because they couldn't get many the last 2 bids (I think they got 7 out of the 22 they were looking for). If Onex wants to expand WestJet WB rapidly they will require lots of pilots, currently Swoop/Encore are having a hard time attracting qualified pilots and WJ is...
