Re: ONEX plans

Because it removes Swoop from the WJ group, it is an arbitrated anchor in our agreement and point of division in our group. Not by pilot group making, but certainly created by management. The fact that there are hundreds pilots eligible to bid into Swoop from WJ/Encore and they are advertising here ...

Re: Sunwing hires Swoop

There is no 12 year pay scale at Swoop. Any growth at Swoop (flying Sunwing peeps, or ‘Swoop Vacations’) is totally out of WestJet. Selling empty seats to your competitor (for I am guessing pretty cheap rates) sounds more like looking for change under the sofa cushions. Swoop is still the same crap ...

Re: ONEX plans

They are looking for a lot of FO’s because they couldn't get many the last 2 bids (I think they got 7 out of the 22 they were looking for). If Onex wants to expand WestJet WB rapidly they will require lots of pilots, currently Swoop/Encore are having a hard time attracting qualified pilots and WJ is...

Re: Swoop interview

I also notice you live in YLW-no jumpseat agreements (I think at this point just for spite by now) can’t fly standby on your own airline (but you can on WestJet-go figure), you will get non-commuting Sched’s (stranded reserve days, pairings start with 6am report-finish with midnight).

Re: Swoop interview

Sigh..... There is a shortage and there are so many better places to apply. It’s like beating a dead horse. I am assuming you have quite low time, or you are looking to get a DEC position. If you are neither of these then maybe you are a masochist. A year in and it is still.... Poor pay, only contro...

Re: One list

Sorry guys, I was a yes and feel this is an unfortunate outcome. I am sure the Onex deal would have created some uncertainty for some WJ guys. The language about the bump and flush got a lot of guys too. It may very well be revisited and tweaked. Either way it is a let down. There has been a lot of ...

Re: One list

Business model, etc, etc, that's an MBA management problem, not a labour problem... If I were Westjet pilot I'd see this as leverage... There is NO WAY I'd vote Yes for free. Why do you care about Encore though? Or company recruitment issues? That's not Westjet mainline pilot problems... What's in ...

Silence definitely doesn’t mean improvement. Not one item of complaint has changed. Yes 18/19 days, same money,uniforms/ benefits/poor management.

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

No need to go into details swoopstar The majority of Swoop pilots can’t wait to get out, the majority of pilots that can go to Swoop (WestJet FO’s and Encore Pilots) want nothing to do with it. It’s a pay cut from WJ right seat to Swoop left seat (unless you are very junior), and it is far worse wor...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

Me Greenway has stated on LinkedIn that external applicants are now welcomed. I can only guess that the internal applicants were lower than the requirement. The posted attachment from Mr. Greenway makes me physically ill. Boasting that you get on the WestJet seniority list if you come to Swoop. It’...

Re: Swoop WestJet Captain Bid/Late Schedules?

Seeing as the working conditions are worse than Encore, the pay is pathetic, grey days (want to work on your day off for straight time pay). Swoop is not a start up, it’s a very poorly played shell game, WestJet wants to run 6 cent CASM, Westjet has a billion in the bank and owns outright 70 or so o...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

Swoop is a shit show to be sure. If they do tell you before hand which company you are being hired for and you hear Swoop-run. Honestly even for WJ mainline I’m not sure what the plan is these days, if they grow Swoop mainline will stagnate (90% is the guarantee). Lots are leaving for AC currently s...

WTF. So him rambling on quoting his own enormous irrelevant quotes just runs on. I come back to see what’s changed here-not much. It’s public, I get it. But he’s just jackhammering the WestJet forum. Is it just here, or is taking over other sections too?

Peace out

The main problem with all of his multiple handles is he carpet bombs the whole forum-often talking to himself. I hardly come anymore as it’s killed the forum. If the moderators could at least ‘moderate’ him to one handle it might help somewhat. It’s becoming a forum of one. 😕

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

Cloak, Regarding your “retrospect” comment. The only way we could have done the flying on an interim basis was if the Union agreed to sacrifice rights under the labour code. That was a term set by the company. Let’s see - give up bargaining power to fly Swoop under interim conditions then bargain w...

‘As a pilot at WJ, I do have a clear interest in knowing how the MEC plans to address the issues surrounding the WPDL legacy.’ Pick up your phone and call your rep, or ask away on a public chat room sounding off like a victim. One will give you an answer, the other will drag this silly thread on. Th...

Re: some reading

I would hope they figure out how to automate it in ‘30-50 years’, The current worldwide fleet of commercial aircraft seem unlikely to be automated, but the next generation I would expect will be built with that in mind. They probably won’t be burning jet A either.

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

You need to read my comment again, as you obviously didn’t understand it the first time. I didn’t say the lease returns went to Swoop, they were retained in the fleet to free up aircraft and a consistent set of -800s were sent to Swoop. Right you are. Shouldn't post when tired. However, the managem...

They did not apply... The company stated they May elect to do the formal process.
Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought it was ultimately up to Mr. Kaplan if they are able to or not.

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft

Sept 9th is the last day of scheduled mediated bargaining. After that the mediator will decide on outstanding issues. ‘The WestJet Group’ has recently applied for a more formal arbitration process though that could slow the process down somewhat. It’s the same arbitrator though regardless of the pro...
