Re: 2024 GS Schedule?

The CP was doing Q&A with the COO recently. The COO said 8 of the Swoop tails aren’t even being flown as they can’t crew them. Like all management fireside chats I’d take it with a grain of salt-but I would assume hiring will continue if they can find the candidates. He also mentioned Encore is only...

Re: Yyc base

There has been quite a bit of hiring lately for WJ too, it’s only the bottom 15-17% that get reserve (short call or long call), so I would doubt that ALL the SWG pilots will be reserve. Western based SWG CA’s might be a different story, I’m not to knowledgeable about their western bases or tenure-I ...

Re: Yyc base

Why would it be any better of a time for seniority based scheduling, to punish SWG pilots?. The vast majority of WJ pilots don’t want a seniority based schedule system as was made clear in the recent surveys. I wish it would stop being dragged out all the time. We already have the seniority based fu...

Re: WestJet new direction with ULCC integration

ALPA and the pilot shortage killed Swoop, not ‘costs and finding synergies’. All the crap (fees, costs) he talks about didn’t just magically appear with Swoop, they were fully aware as they were already running an airline. In the initial Swoop roadshows GGG actually said they figured Swoop would cos...

Re: Career perspective based on the long run

I was told the same thing, 8 years in 2011. It ended up being 10 years for YYZ, 12 years for YYC/YVR (full block reserve). I do think it will come down a bit, but you will upgrade faster at pretty much any other airline in Canada. Westjet has great lifestyle if you are a block holder (everybody has ...

‘ Further, Swoop was an error that cost you plenty. You should have learned from Rouge, so don't blame us’, I’m not going to delve into the rest of your guys discussion. But we didn’t need to learn about rouge, Saretsky (Sp) was spouting off about jet star at the Swoop roadshows, Swoop was the first...

Re: WJ AIP - disappointing or not?

The 3 top wants of the westjet pilots in descending order, Scope, job protection Take home pay increase Scheduling My opinion is just from a line pilot. Also we are still waiting for more detailed info. But from the highlights. We have captured Swoop and Sunwing flying under one OC and same WAWCON, ...

Re: How long to get YYC base

Well, there is a WestJet YEG base now. Initial bid for 25 crews (filled) ramping up to 100. It was mostly a reshuffle though of positions, but did create about 10 more western CA spots in the end. The Swoop base is still there though somewhat diminished, and no YXX Swoop base so far. Currently any ‘...

Re: How long to get YYC base

C’mon. WestJet starts Swoop when the WJ pilots unionize to circumvent them. ALPA and ACPA both publicly tell pilots not to apply there. After the dust settles Kaplan punts the off the street pilots to the right seat. Every pilot at Swoop is fully aware (or lives in a cave somewhere) that WJ ALPA wan...

Yeah…… the TA will pass. Ironic that posters here were, up to recent history, berating and belittling the pilots for working there and the ugly blight the green disrupters presented to the industry. Now, they’re pleading with the Flair group to be the shining beacon of hope and the champion for cha...

Re: Westjet Send Notice to Open Contract Negotiations. Could this start a rising tide to beat AC?

Flair and Lynx are definitely not WJ’s comparator. Swoop is (and is already the lowest paid 737 gig in Canada-probably NA). WJ may be pulling back in the media-but they are still two class airline with codeshares and all the fixings. Management may not want it to be compared to AC(but the last arbit...

“ The devil will be in the details though” Certainly will be, I was giving Alexis the benefit of the doubt until his company webcast. Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

Do you know for sure that the SunWing pilots will be merged with all WJ group company pilots, including Encore pilots? Or would they be merged with only the WJ mainline and Swoop pilots who are in one bargaining unit (Encore having its own bargaining unit)? I think a weighted merging would be the l...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

The WestJet Pilot Agreement part of the Scope clause spells out all revenue flying operated by ‘the Company’ will be exclusively flown by pilots subject to the agreement. That agreement encompasses WJ airlines and Swoop pilots (with a heavily carved out LOU). I don’t think the SunWing pilots will co...

Re: Onex buying Sunwing ?

If it makes it through regulatory approval I would imagine Sunwing Airlines will be rolled into one of the current WestJet AOC’s. Encore’s current contract specifies ‘no jets’, I am sure WJ management would love to put it under Swoop’s LOU- but while the regulatory process runs it’s course WJ Pilots...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

The 6 MAXs were originally destined for Norwegian. WestJet didn’t have anymore 800’s to give at this time so they are buying these ones. The shift to MAX’s makes sense as Flair and Lynx are operating them. These are not WestJet aircraft. Where are you getting this information?, since Onex came to t...

IF the Swoop LOU is removed/contract parity there would definitely be a system wide rebid. But honestly anyone in Swoop currently should be wholeheartedly behind contact parity. The seats will shuffle a bit, but your earnings/lifestyle/retirement savings/benefits/time off all improve markedly-And we...
