John Spronk - Sad News
John Herman Spronk (b. May 13, 1926) left us on June 15, 2014 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. He had been in hospital for 3 months but his death was still unexpected. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Patricia, his two daughters Margot and Trevi, and grandchildren Mariel and Bryn...

Re: The ultimate glider tow plane and training glider?
I think we're going a little off track here, .'s origianl post was about the ultimate tow plane/training glider and I suspect there's probably a number of great suggestions and possibilities out there. Thanks for considering the cadet movement and how you might be able to help out - it's a good prog...

Re: Lancaster(?) in Calgary
Glad to hear she's in Calgary. There are only two remaining flying examples, the other is operated by the Battle of Britain memorial flight in England, we were lucky enough to see her fly at three airshows (Waddinton, Duxford, and RIAT) during July. It's truly amazing to see this bit of history in t...

Re: Naniamo Alert!!!!!!
Well, I'm just one of those little guys who doesn't need to worry about the $24 dollars. For me, it's pretty simple - I just don't visit anyplace with landing fees. There's lots of great places to go, who appreciate my business when I get there. I'm a little disappointed in this one because I learne...

Re: New "Old Aircraft"
I've got a little time in the L-19, I'm pretty sure that you'll find it was built and operated with only 60 degrees of flaps by both the military and as a civil aircraft.

Re: A Lack of Airmanship...Again!
The problem with anyone who would do a run-up without considering the impact on other aircraft around them is not related to checklists, or type of aircraft, or age of pilot, or where their from. It's very simply related to the location of the head of the person in the driver's seat. When people for...

Re: Abbotsford Airshow 2009 Disappointment
robbreid - nice pics, thank you for sharing them. We should probably note that the Tiger Moth was actually flown by the Museum of Flight during the show, as were a few of their other aircraft which were parked away from the crowd. On the other hand, the volunteers offered to rope off the Beaver and ...

Oh well, I think the lesson is shop around! Absolutely! Park is an Insurance broker. That is they shop the companies that that provide insurance. Correct. I just believe that in my case they didn't try very hard to get me the best deal. I won't go into details but I will say that I gave them lots o...

That wasn't my experience. I used Park for several years before going to COPA/Marsh. Park was about 25% more expensive. If it's from Marsh/Copa, you should try Park Aviation - they are usually cheaper.

Re: Vancouver Airspace Changes coming in July
Personally, I'd rather rely on my own ability to see and avoid than be forced to add another piece of technology that takes may take my attention away from what I think I'm supposed to be doing, that is flying the airplane.they should enforce the need for a TCAS or similar system.

Really? How many are "lots"? How did you measure that number? And who were their instructors and examiners?.....because there are lots of air cadets that pass who shouldn't have?

Re: Airmanship and fuel pumps (OldDog)
I had a happy experience with a young fellow demonstrating airmanship earlier today and I just wanted to say a public thank you. I was parked on the ramp at Chilliwack this morning, myself and several others were standing there when this 172 with a YPK flying school name on the side taxied in. He wa...

This looks like a good place to ask a question I've been wondering about for several years now...
Why is it that the fp prop requires inspection every 5 years vs. the more complex CP prop requring inspection every ten years?

Re: The best airplane for tail wheel training?
Has anyone figured out what is bizarre about this quote from the flight training manual? Well, with my limited experience on either of the two taildraggers(Canuck and L-19) I fly, I'd expect to see a windscreen full of sky right after impacting the ground at 100-300fpm. I can't generalize to all ot...

What is involved in a Class 1 AME? Assuming you mean the Class 1 medical the requirements are on the TC website at http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/cam/menu.htm. I'll guarantee the horror stories you've heard have nothing on the realities of having something go undetected. Just like flying, the so...

I waited for about an hour to get that shot! And a really nice result. Here's a photo that my then 11 year old took back in August 2006 at Pitt Meadows when the Aeroclub of BC hosted a Canuck gathering to celebrate there 60th birthdays, 7 Canucks attended. Ours is the White and Red one. http://i354...

Hey Old Dog, you know you've got two canucks in the pic, right?
And there should be no doubt that EAU is very likely the nicest Canuck around.

Re: The best airplane for tail wheel training?
the Fleet Canuck was stressed for +9 and -4 Gs That seems like a pretty good memory, and I believe that I've seen those numbers associated with the Canuck as originally built. I've been checking through my documents and the STC for the O-200 installation reduces those numbers to +3.8 and -1.9 Gs. :...

I'm just saying it would be better if the weekend warriors just stuck with their 172s, if your flying all the time I have no prob; It's a currency thing more of a commercial thing. As one of those "weekend warriors" I'm not going to get all torqued up over this kind of thinking but it does seem lik...

Re: The best airplane for tail wheel training?
Life is about having as many experiences as possible and enjoying the learning. It is not what job you do, why are people here so serious? You've got that right, I fly only because I enjoy it. But then that's the same reason I go to work everyday. I'm just going to stick with the notion that I fly ...
