Re: Pilots Working The Ramp
I am just trying to remember when a School Teacher had to prove themselves by being a Janitor for a year before they could teach or a Doctor having to drive a Cab before they could practice. Its a decision each individual has to make on their own. If you want to work the ramp that 'might' get you a...

Pilots Working The Ramp
Now, I know Im gonna get flamed here, but am I the only one who thinks the system takes advantage of low time pilots for cheap labour? Pilots pumping gas, cleaning toilets, tossing bags, etc. Im sure you learn a lot about the overall operation of a company like that, but you could have done that whe...

Re: Shortest Time to Solo
I hate the fact that insurance companies run aviation. I believe that a complete PPL course should include a check out on a taildragger, operations on real short and narrow surfaces, unprepared strips (soft/grass/gravel) and EMT. A PPL candidate should IMO, also have some exposure to a "Complex Airc...

Re: aviation industry today
You can't expect me to buzz around in a C206. I didn't just do my MIFR and IATRA for nothing. My first resume is going to Jazz! Their website doesn't say a thing about needing PIC time for the right seat! Save the Cessna crap for those 200hr wonders with no MIFR. I went to Seneca, I have 250hrs, MI...

Re: aviation industry today
Ok, that's very true. Do you see a solution to this? I mean, schools are pumping out a shit load of pilots into an industry where there are no jobs, especially for low timers.

And I also taught a lot in that time frame.
The cost for a PPL was $ 300.00 and the government gave us $150.00 back.
So you paid $150. What is that in today's money?

Re: Professionalism v cost.
It is not the customers who should be blamed. Of course, who wants to pay more for anything? Whatever it is, an airline ticket, hockey game ticket, a rack of ribs, leather jacket, we always want to save money and get the most. That's never gonna change. Airlines are a business and as such, they want...

Training here is not high level Cat. Anyone with a CPL can get an Instructor's Rating.Cat Driver wrote:If flight training in Canada is supposed to be to a high level quality wise how do instructors as inept as the one you described not only get the rating but are allowed to keep on instructing?

Re: Ground School & Flight Training
You could take ground school at any FTU or even online. Just make sure you record the times in your PTR. When comes time to write your exam (you can do it when you have 10 hours if you are ready) you will need a Letter of Recommendation. Make sure you can get one of those.

Re: Shortest Time to Solo
Just cause you take a while to solo, does not mean you will spend $20K on your PPL. As mentioned, I don't think when you solo makes any difference. There are too many variables to take into account.

Re: How do I get a flying job as soon as possible?
The 250 hour pilot flying for "commuters" doesn't happen here (very often) I think he might be thinking this is like USA where you fly for regionals as soon as you come out of flight school.

Re: canadian flight dispatcher exams
I haven't written them yet (too lazy/not sure if I want to do dispatching) but they are likely to be more like the ATPL/IATRA. Get the AeroCourse ATPL and some good weather manual (ACWM).
