What I find rather amusing is that there seem to be a good number of WJ pilots surprised by this outcome.
This is all on script.

Re: WestJet might as well rebrand itself as Canadian
Obviously you haven't flown on them for a long time. That stopped years ago. You'll have to find another excuse. The era of Westjet corny nonsense is most certainly not dead. Rode LGW-YVR in Sept-Oct with whatever they call their cabin manager maintaining an excruciating, non-stop, non-funny, quite...

Re: WestJet might as well rebrand itself as Canadian
Business people still won't fly WJ. I know I won't. That is unless they change their FA training to be more professional and less "jokey" along with the pilots PAs. Just cause there is a J class now means jack shot if no companies will fly with them. Too many people are long committed to the Aeropl...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
Glad to see you “managed” to get around the poor starting pay. Believe me they hate you. But you are insignificant now so they’ll just deal with with you while they have to. It’s called being professional. Professional like not being a scab. I feel sorry for you and the rest of those that go to wor...

Re: Whoops....Swoops
That's not correct - the aircraft already has ETOPS approval from the various CAAs as part of the Type Certification process. For individual Airlines ETOPS approval is given by the state of registry. It's not about ETOPS, it's type approval. When WestJet receives their first 787 it will be added to...

Re: Whoops....Swoops
Actually it's not that simple either. Anytime an airline adds a new type they must get regulatory approval from every country they want to fly to with that type. That's not correct - the aircraft already has ETOPS approval from the various CAAs as part of the Type Certification process. For individ...

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/swoop-u-s-destinations-cancellations-permits-approvals-1.4870626 Begs the question....is 787 overseas being marketed yet, and if so does WJ have the related approvals and slots for long haul ops? This can't be a serious question in an airline forum but... FYI;...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
We can disagree just fine on it. I think comparing yourself to others next door doing a similar job are fair comparisons, No it's not a fair comparison, for the reasons I previously stated, not to mention a population base 10x that of Canada. We will have to agree to disagree. I get it, you're anti...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
Aerobud, you obviously have no understanding of rates of pay and benefits of companies overseas apart from what you find on the internet. Any of us can find internet 'facts' to support our argument, but as someone who worked 20 years as an expat in Asia, the ME and Europe, I can tell you the number...

And the comparison utterly irrelevant. Maybe. Maybe not... to you. I don't think it's irrelevant, and I didn't bring it into this conversation... but if you're going to make it, make it accurately. I'm not trying to put anything down, but we need to keep an accurate picture of where we actually sta...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...
I think to say Spirit/WestJet pay is remotely equivalent is grossly inaccurate. And the comparison utterly irrelevant. I'm not trying to put anything down, but we need to keep an accurate picture of where we actually stand in terms of pay and compensation in this country . So why are you comparing ...

Actually No, they don't, but you just go along and keep telling yourself as much and anyone naïve enough to listen. :goodman: Where do you come up with this stuff ? It's borderline tinfoil - hat ramblings . No they don't do "retroactive dues" they do a "one time assessment". But you just keep telli...

Hahaha. I'm an average pilot at best my friend! :D Can't say that I've ever been deemed un-upgradeable though. Can all the "OTS" captains make that claim? I have no idea but they are undoubtedly more mature and professional. If I were a WestJet pilot I would be profoundly embarrassed to admi...

Re: They were going to lock everyone out and shut the doors?
Are WJ pilots paid in magic fairy dust, or something other than cold hard currency? You've obviously been snorting some of that dust to proclaim that pilot wages have no bearing on the bottom line or CASM. Wages are a COST. You do know the "C" in CASM stands for COST, right? And pilot wages are a s...

Re: They were going to lock everyone out and shut the doors?
Some people still buy it - that it's all about the pilots and our wages. The fact is that you could pay the guys in the front nothing and it wouldn't even show as a blip on reducing CASM meaningfully. Utter bollocks and100% wrong. Certainly what the union types would like you to believe. You have o...
