Re: Forest Protection Limited Shadow Role
From chatting with some folks there a while back..... (who have always been nice to chat with!) In a nutshell....everyone typically hangs out in YFC. They have many reload bases around the province. Shadow flys to the reload base nearest to the fire upon dispatch to get everything set up for when th...

Re: Staycation
Sometimes the best 'staycation' is right at home. We often forget or don't even know what's in our own 50 mile radius sometimes.... tourists usually come to where you live too! Stay home, unplug, relax, vacation does not have to be busy all the time doing something! A quiet walk in the woods not far...

Re: Hemorrhoids
It's an occupational issue, shouldn't be a problem. Now if it's one of those nasties that needs surgery, that's another thing, but still shouldn't be a medical invalidating issue, its just a major pain in the arse.

Not being from the area or using the airport a lot, one thing I’d think would be nice there is a full length taxiway.

Our company uses this:

I don’t like it personally but that’s not saying much.
I would hope they update it when the new rules come into effect.

Re: Cherokee 140 near Sioux Lookout
Flightradar24 shows a small piper in the area around 02z…..
It was rainy….. it was dark….it’s been a long day beating across the continent at 80kts….
Dark in that area is dark. There may be a tower light blinking somewhere, maybe not. On a cloudy night, it’s IFR.
Very sad

Re: Dunk Course for Floatplane Pilots
I’m gonna play devils advocate here…. I have done ‘the course’ several times and believe me, I learned a lot, after the first one about 12 years ago I’ve worn a ‘mustang’ style life jacket while flying floatplanes. But…. Has TC ‘approved’ any of these courses? Sure there’s a list of required trainin...

Re: Sharp Bush Knife
This could go the way of a discussion on the best oil to use! You thinking of a sheathe type fixed blade knife, or a small pocket knife, or a multi tool with a knife blade amongst other things? You plan to wear it on your belt? Or have it in a door pocket or emergency bag? Whatever you get, also get...

Here’s the newest interm order, medical exemption is in there. I’d hope you’d be able to get one.
Good luck

Re: Mandatory life jacket wearing coming for most seaplanes
Operators in this area are simply using the ole faithful ‘bagged’ inflatable life jacket, put inside a fanny pouch and voila, wearing an approved life jacket.ragbagflyer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:24 pm What models have people here ordered for commercial use as of Sept 6th?

Re: Northwestern Air Lease Turbine Otter Flips Over
That’s what I can’t understand is why guys don’t fly amphibs like a regular retractable gear aircraft and retract the gear after every take off I wonder this too….. Then you hear someone saying they wait to retract the gear until the usable runway ahead of them is ‘unusable’ in case of an engine fa...

Re: Get a Trade discussion
Getting a ‘trade’ does not mean having to go to school, going through the ‘apprenticeship’ program etc. You can likely take a night class, or better yet, get a job as a labourer and learn on the job. You don’t need a red seal to do renovation work for instance. In a lot of places, it’s the smaller j...

Do you still need a license with the CTA, and in what order do those get issued? Chicken or egg first?

Meanwhile in Canada...... TC recently makes it mandatory to fly a Twin Otter 2 crew while doing STOL.... errr.... RGR take-offs ..... guess it’s nice having help unloading the freight.

Re: Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
Buy into the Champ!!!!! The experience you’ll gain, just in hangar talk and grassroots aviation will far outweigh a few extra hours on floats. And the friends and experiences you’ll get flying around are priceless. Plus, owning the plane will hopefully teach you about ‘operating’ equipment and takin...
