Re: Are FTU's Busy?

Yes, just as busy, if not busier then before Covid - I don't understand it Guess people think there are lots of pilot jobs available Plenty of people benefitting financially from our ridiculous Covid response. They have lots of free time and plenty of disposable income to complete flight training. ...

Re: Is this The End of the Pilot Career

self flying planes are not too far away Sure, they're here now. But, there are no present standards to certify them for passenger carrying use. Sure, they'll develop standards, but it won't be fast. And MCAS has done nothing to build confidence in the FAA certifying automated systems. Pilots are sa...

Re: Flight training with masks?

Just because it is calm before the storm , do not think the storm is not coming. The people who partied like it was 1999 are now bed blocking the ICUs in many major cities . Those party people are now feeding their organs to the virus . There are only so many hospital beds , and in case you have st...

Where did you get the mortality rate numbers? Most of the information that I can find about Canadian numbers is just the infection rates. I can’t find death rates of the infected, nor the hospitalizations of those infected. Canadian information is scarce vie a vie secondary heath issues. https://ww...

Re: Open the door, no thanks

As with all data, the reality is much more nuanced than a simple twitter post can show. Here’s the reality: - the mortality rate in the US is plummeting. Nationally, it has been in the 0.5% range for a week. - New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts were the basket cases of the US. They made horribl...

Re: Pakistan International Airlines

I once heard a PIA pilot give YYZ approach hell because the controller was giving out an altimeter setting of 30.02” and the ATIS was showing 30.00”. The controller kept his cool, but the pilot would not let it go...imagine flying with that level of arrogance and ignorance.

Re: Flight training with masks?

Airlines do not require crew to wear masks on the flight deck. Don’t know why they need to be worn during training.

I would be looking for a like-minded instructor who would remove their mask when out of sight of the panicky public.

You are a voice of reason Pelmet. I’ve stopped trying to convert the cowering and fearful masses...it’s a losing battle... but I still feel it’s important to support those that have a clear and balanced outlook on this crisis. You are not alone. There are many people that feel the same way. I hope ...

Re: Career outlook Starting @30

The most to gain is the media. Until we can somehow stop boomers from believing everything they see on CNN or Facebook we're going to keep having the same problem. Hmmm...I’ve already seen propaganda from “first responder” unions that they need immediate and permanent wage and working condition imp...

What we are witnessing is what happens when you give health care professionals a blank cheque to do whatever it take to save every life costs be damned. Our near total economic destruction is a result of the myopic focus on covid outcomes. In a society costs must be weighed, does prolonging the lif...

Re: Layoff Numbers

CEWS is just a way for the government to cook the books and keep the unemployment numbers artificially low. If/when the general public starts to wake up to the real impact of our reaction to this crisis there is bound to be backlash against government/healthcare officials.

Flame away if you must.

I’ve heard that some daycares are turning away children of aircrew because they perceive those kids as high-risk disease carriers!! For those with kids, not working might just make life simpler. That’s why the new policy in my home is that no one gets to know my (or my wife’s) profession unless the...

Thanks so much for the quick response!

So to confirm if you are taking "1 week" of vacation, it is really only 5 paid days and 2 unpaid days at your option?

Vacation question

I'm doing a comparison of airline vacation policy and I was hoping someone could help me with a couple questions regarding Westjet's vacation policy. What is your vacation week/years of service matrix. How much is each vacation day worth? Is it per day or per week? Does taking a vacation week pro-ra...

Re: Boeing Systemic Problems Continue

Nailed it L39guy, You’ve exposed the root problem and no amount of engineering will overcome lack of basic airmanship until pilots are removed from the equation completely. The way the profession is going I believe that day will come sooner than later. Today’s “professional” pilots are becoming more...
