Re: The best airplane for tail wheel training?

Talk of alignment and toe in and just how squirrely things can get reminds me of the first few times I flew my O-470 Blanton Wichawk. She'd come out of a service, sold with the annual just done. She'd had been built by a retired Qantas engineer/pilot, and I was happy to buy her sight unseen, althoug...

Re: Five Deaths Demand Justice Petition

Seems highly likely the Beaver, for whatever reason, failed to pull off a successful alighting. Shocking as the whole interminable aftermath has been, you look at the known facts and in the absence of any witness, credible or otherwise, conclude that much the pity, any finding will be inconclusive....

Re: New Colour Blindness Test

Does the girl in blue not look like she's packing a unit? Or is that a shadow? You remind me of the time at Skiathos Airport that the ancient security lady going through the missus's handbag thought there was cordite in the tampons, a unit that apparently had not reached her village. She's pick, pi...

Cat, you say -

This getting old thing is something I have no control over but I intend to keep right on getting older

Old lag to judge who has just sentenced him to thirty years: Ahh Gees your honour, I won't live that long.
Judge: Just do the best you can then.

Re: Transport Ca stats on pass/fail for written/flight tests

Koizie1 The purpose of a written test is not to determine whether a person is a good or bad pilot. We've all done the exams and know a well trained monkey could do it! The purpose is to prove you have the ability, interest and motivation to learn something. Even just memorizing the answers proves y...

Re: Ernest Gann

The trouble with reading authors such as St Ex in translation is obvious. I am not bilingual so have to make do with "Wind, Sand and Stars". I was chatting once about that book with the French consul from Melbourne visiting Tasmania and when I started to warm to the subject he said, "Oh, so you hav...

2R reckons - As only by listening to all sides will we get it right. And that is why the Judges in the supreme court get the big pay checks as they have to listen to all sides and get it right for our times . And I reckon debates of this kind involving morality will go on forever. Back and forth. Ba...

Jimmy Clark got his PPL at the Royal Aero Club of New South Wales in 1962 in nine days flat. Though raw ab initio, he averaged around five hours flying a day and knocked over the theory at night. In 1968 Graham Hill staged through Brisbane in his Aztec. I refueled him and helped him get weather and...

MichaelP, digressing from aerobatics - With the media in mind, how many entertainment shows are there on North American television? Almost all comedies are reruns, yet in jolly olde England they still produce more and more comedies. So a political scandal involving the sex trade is seen in a humoro...

Britten-Norman BN2 XL By a well-known ‘Flight magazine’. Undaunted by technical realities, the design team at Pilatus Britten - Norman has announced plans for the BN2-XL, promising more noise, reduced payload, a lower cruise speed, and increased pilot workload. We spoke to Mr. Fred Gribble, former ...

MichaelP - Cathay use a CAP 10B to determine whether the cadet will have the stick and rudder skills they desire. Trying to remember the issue of Flight or Flight International that had the review and flight test. Had the CAP in flight on the cover. The piece was titled "Rarely, rarely comest thou,...

Are we lost, or are we found at last? On earth we strive for our various needs, because so goes the fundamental law of man. Aloft, at least for a little while, the needs disappear. Likewise the striving. In the thoughts of man aloft, food and evil become mixed and sometimes reversed. This is the op...
