Re: Flight Test Recommendations
I have a student that came to me from another flight school who had partialed his flight test and then failed his partial (this was at another flight school). I did some training with him to get him back up to standards and I re-recommened him and he passed on his first attempt here. Does this coun...

Re: Transport Canada suing
Yes, you read that right. Transport Canada is suing the District of Muskoka (owner operator of CYQA Muskoka Airport) and papers are filed. The reason appears total mismanagement, harassment of tenants, ignoring the conditions in tenant leases and the abusive use of their authority on the tenants. I...

Re: Video : Strong headwind - Ground Speed 0
Reminds me of flight training. Used to take students out when strong upper winds were present and would do slow flight and see how slowly we could progress with reference to the ground. Most of the time we'd get down to just really slow or no forward progress but on a few occasions actually wound up...

Re: Can a training bond that was NOT signed be enforced?
Obviously there's nowhere near enough background to truly assess this situation but I will admit that my eyebrows raised just a bit on the part that the timeline is less than a year from start to finish. And yet it seems most respondents think it's the operator that's the problem. Hmmm?!

Surprised they aren't booked at Oshkosh as it would seem to be a natural. Oh well, may have to go to Cold Lake for the day and see them there.

Just curious why you were asked to investigate this? Seems like a bit of a random question but perhaps there's an interesting back story you'd like to share?

If they could get approval to tie-up the runway and do high-speed taxi runs , why not just get approval to do engine run-ups sitting at the threshold?

Re: Flight Instructing as a hobby/side-gig
I think you should treat both your instructors and your customers with respect, which means in the first case paying a decent rate, and in the second case, working hard to find the best possible instructors. But I concede that I'm old fashioned and know nothing, and that in an industry where the cu...

Re: Flight Instructing as a hobby/side-gig
True, but you need to give them something to keep them interested in working for low wages. I think you should treat both your instructors and your customers with respect, which means in the first case paying a decent rate, and in the second case, working hard to find the best possible instructors....

Re: Flight Instructing as a hobby/side-gig
It may also be hard to find a school that can/will fit in an instructor that only does IFR and ME (or other ratings like Night and VFR-OTT). While experience there can be a benefit, those courses are typically viewed as "rewards" for instructors that have stayed around a while. Also, teaching those ...

Re: Student flight test failure affecting instructor record?
A couple of things to think about. 5) When teaching PPL’s Ex 5 to 9 are by far the most important part of the course. I still see too many new instructors rush through teaching the foundation fly skills. Their students pay for it later, including in the flight test. Great big +1 on this!! So many i...
