Re: Westjet's new Dreamliner livery & logo

Two words. Despise it. It is muted, bland, and leaves me feeling cold. Plus, if they are so worried about the regionalism of the WEST in WestJet, how about renaming the airline then? Changing the colour of the word West is akin to Monty Python drag. You still know they're men no matter how they get ...

Re: The problem with runways at Canada's major airports - CBC

I expect we'll see more EMAS in Canada, especially in real estate limited airports. 150m of EMAS is probably equally as safe as 300m of hard concrete I would expect the same. One other thing I am trying to get to the bottom of is runway approach lighting. Given that this could eat up significant sp...

Re: The problem with runways at Canada's major airports - CBC

Maybe they'll take it into consideration for new builds but we can't go around extending every runway in Canada. Interesting response. What is so special about Canada that we cannot do what almost every other country in the world has been able to do? I keep hearing about how infrastructure in the U...

Re: Why is flying so expensive?

Thanks for all the replies so far. I appreciate it. Yes, the cost of collecting "fees" of any kind often are not weighed by a business prior to implementation. What I've seen to date is ridiculous in its execution. However, the infrastructure that is needed or being used is not free either. I know t...

Re: Why is flying so expensive?

Hi, Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I am researching opinions on Pilot concerns with Canadian airports. Landing fees come up all the time. I was looking for a thread or two on here that would encompass all opinions, or at least all opinions on AvCanada. I am asking because I have to go...

Re: Here we go again......

Hwy 19 - backroad - 170th street - becomes Terwillegar -Fox - Bel - 114. Ever since the Henday alignment - this is easy as pie. 21 mins tops. Sirens, a little faster but not much from what my EMS friends tell me. This used to be my "avoid detection" route before the Henday. YXD to the Walter Mackenz...

Re: Here we go again......

I think Edmonchuk is Stephen Mandel. 0 people have been saved by fixed wing airplanes at YXD? That's a load of BS. I know firsthand of at least 20 for various ailments. Heart attacks, childbirth, and gunshot victims are a few of the ones that stand out. 20,000 passengers a year eh. Would be a lot m...

Re: Here we go again......

Oil companies originally wanted to be in Edmonton but could not make an office building work downtown due to the height restrictions. Most communities have height restrictions. Some don't even have an airport. If YXD is the reason to not build downtown then why didn't they go to Strathcona? Your ex...

Re: Here we go again......

(...) Agreed. Forty years of stifling growth does tend to do that, but you are still right. (...) Edmonton is too small for one significant airport! The city has consistently been beaten by Calgary when it comes to planning infrastructure and the airports question is only a very small part of that....

Re: Here we go again......

The title is appropriate - here we go again with misinformation and rumor. The airport was consolidated in after a 1995 plebiscite where 77% of Edmontonians voted to consolidate ALL flights at YEG. This voter turnout was over 50% in this civic election. Over 3:1 voted for this consolidation. The Aut...
