I used to bring in the otter ( on floats) to the dock on 1 mag to parallel park against the current in YTH. Could letterally go sideways to the dock. If I recall correctly the rpm was tickling 200. A cooler sound I have never heard.

Re: Why you should always know where the sandbars are!!!!
Leaving water rudders down for take-off is no big deal in my experience. They just ride up and skip along the water anyway once you speed up. I use to do it intentionally just to see if there was any advantage. But it was always a case of beer if someone caught you.

If take-off field length requirements and net take off flight path requirements are met Im happy. Not gonna back track. In anything without certified take-off and climb performance, Im backtracking all the way...usually.

Stop Faulting the Flight Crew for the Crash of Colgan 3407! By Arthur Alan Wolk The flight crew was blameless for this crash and everyone investigating the crash knows it. It’s just easier to blame the dead crew than to blame the manufacturer who failed to equip this airliner with modern anti-ice eq...

Re: Continental Flt 3407 Crash at Buffalo/Niagra Intr'nal
full flaps only really increase drag. When you go past the magic angle, they're a disadvantage when you need to speed up and climb. Yes if you want to climb they are a drag. But they also lower the stall speed and we are talking about getting back above the stall speed asap not climbing. I say leave...

Re: Continental Flt 3407 Crash at Buffalo/Niagra Intr'nal
Interesting. If your that close to the ground and contact is a concern why not leave the gear down until pos rate. At least then you wouldnt prang the props. Thats the procedure Im familliar with. Landing stall.

if you sit and wait for a positive rate with flap full and gear down before pulling the flap up, you may never get it.

It would make sense to at least wait for a positive rate of climb before raising flaps. I cant imagine the 400 is much different in that respect.

Re: First Air flight turns into Glider
Not sure which sops you read but full power is generally reserved for very dire situations and will cook the engine in about 20 seconds or so.An engine failure in a jet aint no big thing. Also extremely unlikely for 2 engines to quit.
