life

An employer recently told me that pilots just want the LIFESTYLE !! Did they forget normal everyday costs like groceries, phone, car repairs, and RENT/ MORTGAGE payments just to exist outside of a cardboard box. What a joke. I choose aviation as a job, beacause I have to work for a living. Low pay i...

Are float pilots a dying breed?

With every reserve, mining claim, and small town in nortern Canada getting some form of runway; does that reduce the need for charter companies to have float planes? Will it be soon only lodges that use them? It seems high insurance and the building of strips might spell the end to large scale float...

Hey Doc, I thought someone would explain the mods. on the plane and the first crash. Kinda funny, but not really, if you know what I mean. A pile of money was dumped into the plane with a Texas Conversions engine, wing mods., gauges, etc. The one I am refering to was rebuilt in Buttonville. Sad to h...

Headset Conversions

I was told that there is a upgrade kit to change older David Clark headsets to an ENC version. Is this true, and/or is it a seperate company that sells such a kit? D.C.'s website has no such info. I started flying when a handheld mike was the norm. The headset I have is still excellent, I just wante...

I know for a fact that the plane is Canadian registered. It is heavily modified, and that was the second crash of the season. Someone forgot to turn the fuel ON, in the first accident, so it was a short flight to say the least ! Other people viewing this topic know the more complete story, if they w...

I talked to them last fall, seemed fairly nice. I already have a job so I didn't pursue the opening. I know they said the last guy could fly, but couldn't or wouldn't lift fish boxes at the end of the season. It didn't go over to well I gathered. The owner told me you do lots of flying. Cheers. Oh y...

Hey carpet -boy is a loser because he was trying to run with the big dogs and make an impression of what he was not. I like unwinding now and again, but don't fault road-trippers if they don't drink with strangers and buy rounds to suck up to anyone to get a job... My main point I guess is it is har...

Hey Philly, I agree with what you say, except the part about turning down a beer. In my case I must otherwise , I act like a hyper-active 14 yr. old with his first six pack of Old Milwaukee. I have proven this many, many times. It doesn't mean I can't be trusted, it just means I don't want to end up...

You have to learn the basics to fly floats from a experienced person. You also have to have some solo element to learn from your mistakes. Try finding something like a PA-12 to rent and really hone your skills. If you fly dual with someone later as your skills develop, they can put the pressure on a...

The weirdest thing I have seen was on a 1963 172. It had this pull start lever under the yoke to engage the starter. I flew it a bunch and never had a problem, except I couldn't get my damn big fingers between the panel and the T handle.....Ha Ha Ha.

Hey I know a guy who took 6 months off from working at a prison to fly floats. He liked it, but came back to the money, bought his own plane and has never looked back. He now has money and a plane. Another guy in my area worked for the Ministry of the Enviroment(ie. GOOD paying Gov't job) and was on...
