Re: any pilots fly the snip mine/Bronson/Johnny Mountain?

That old girl was sold to Brooks Fuels in Alaska, and met her unfortunate end when she crashed into a mine strip up there somewhere. I'm not sure any of the details, but I've seen pictures of the crash site on line. There's a guy who posts on here sometimes and has a aviation photo website, maybe th...

Re: Air Tanker down?

Global Edmonton had a story about the fire and had some footage. Looks like a Fire Boss did an emergency landing on Highway 16. Wheels down, nothing looked bent. Glad it worked out as well as it did! No other information given.

Re: Mass exodus at Wasaya

That is true, but working the ramp is not where you learn the things you need to learn to become a good safe pilot. Cat, I don't always agree with you, but you hit the nail on the head with that one. XS alluded to this as well. Making guys work the ramp to "see what kind of worker they are" is hors...

Hi Kirsten, I just saw an update on W5 about the recovery of C-GAQW's engine. I don't know all the facts, but for what it's worth coming from a random guy on the internet, I admire your dedication in your search for the truth. Thank you for all your contributions in trying to remind us all to be saf...

Re: AME Licence Suspended for 14 Months

Doc, I don't know about the PA28, but the two on at least one of the PA31's I flew had Delco voltage regulators. One guy took one down to the Chevy dealer to see if they had any equipment to test it and the guy there says, "I haven't seen one of these in 20 years." Here's another thought. And let me...

Re: Meadow Lake

There's an "Irish" pub in the hotel on the north side of town called Darby O'rourke's. I don't recall anything overly Irish about it except that they had Guinness on tap, but you could get a schooner of Keiths for $6.95. I was drunk there a lot. It was awesome!! :P

Re: TWA Upper Management, what a JOKE

Wow. Seems you have an axe to grind with TWA, but I won't comment on that. So pilots make mistakes. I don't know the specifics of what happened, I wasn't there. Anyone here who has any kind of experience and says they haven't made a mistake is a liar. Why don't we all try to learn something, and tak...

The ones I fly have both KTS and MPH on the ASI. Most manuals I've read use mph, but list both. Companies I've worked for seem to prefer using KTS, but it really boils down to personal preference.

Jazz Commuters

2 questions: 1. How many of you guys live right in the city that you're based? Do you commute from far away? Would it be reasonable to commute from 3-4 hours away? 2. How hard would it be to commute for a guy that doesn't live in that part of the country? For example, I live in AB; If I got to Jazz ...

Remembrance Day

Just watched Don Cherry's tribute to the troops a few minutes ago. It breaks your heart when you realize that most of them are just kids trying to help other people and do the right thing. For my brother-in-law Dave on HMCS Vancouver and all the other troops, thanks for all that you guys do, and kno...

I'm not 100% sure on this, but the ATPL exams are only good for 2 years regardless. I think the IATRA may not need to be rewritten if you get a type rating on a 2-crew airplane. (not a twotter or a king air, but one that says 2 crew on the type certificate)

I for one admit I used common sense once or twice. I could be accused of not backtracking all the way to the end of a runway. 8 or 9 thousand feet rwy at an international airport, and I was in an empty twin otter. Did I really need the extra few feet? USE YOUR HEAD AND THINK, THAT'S WHAT IT'S THERE ...

Co-pilot time won't be counted unless it's in the ops. manual. There also has to be an operational requirement for a copilot (IFR and captain doesn't have 1000 hrs, contract requirement, etc.) I had to get a letter from our chief pilot saying my co-pilot time was "dispatched on a 2-crew flight in ac...

You can download the flight times breakdown on the TC website. It does indeed cost $100. Pirates. $310 for a licence is unbelievable.

Another angle: are the people who are checking ID's even trained to do so? I worked in a small sked service a while ago, and I checked ID's. I have no idea how to spot a fake ID, or even what to look for, except for the really obvious. How hard are people really looking at them anyway?

Didn't want to hijack the other thread, so here it is; what are the chances that the wages will increase for the new hires in the next round of bargaining? Surely Jazz must realize that they need to address the problem of guys leaving left right and centre. A side question, what kind of medical/dent...

I see these guys posting fairly often, and their ads are getting annoying. Maybe we need to have a separate place to post an "overseas jobs" section or something. Just my $.02

As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend calling a CP on a weekend. The only exception is if you have spoken to him/her before and they have specifically said it's okay.
