Jazz Heavy AME

Hey all, I noticed Jazz is looking for an AME in YHZ. I've been thinking of moving back there for ages, anyone care to elaborate on how they treat their AME's? Wages, benefits etc would be most appreciated (feel free to PM as well).

I'm not sure about YXL or YQT guys but I do know all YKF and YWG maintenance guys were laid off 14 people in total) already.

Re: Suggestions for Toolbox?

If my memory serves correct and nothing has changed you should know that tools bought as an apprentice can be written off at tax time. Tools bought after cannot.

Re: Plane lands during Interlake Dragway race

There wouldn't be a NOTAM for this. The drag strip is on a former Runway that hasn't been used in years. (Last time I was racing there was in 1992).

Plane lands during Interlake Dragway race

http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/09/15/plane-lands-during-interlake-dragway-race Whoopsie.... In memory of the Air Canada Gimli glider, an unexpected visitor landed at the Interlake Raceway on Sep 14. Active racing was taking place on the track around 1:45 p.m. That’s when a plane touched down in th...

Flickr makes sense to me. Use 1 login and password and any employee can log in. It costs nothing to upload and host. Plus less chance of having their own servers bombarded with people lookin for pics.

Re: Encore AME jobs

$24.00 / hour is probably the starting engineer wage. I'd be more interested to find out what the jump is after you are given aca. Also I'm curious how long it would be to get aca.

Re: Hand Tools

I will add a good headlamp so you can have both hands free when you are doing tasks. My other suggestion would be flush cut side cutters. Nothing worse than ri[[ing your hand open on a semi cut tie-wrap. You should also know as an apprentice you can write off some of your tools at income tax time, b...

Re: Used Parts from Foreign Aircraft

I am in no way an expert on the CARs but I would interpret that to mean the part you want to install must be re-certified or have NDT testing to verify that it is airworthy. However you might be able to submit the associated paperwork to TC and get it approved. Myself I would be very wary of install...

Re: Buffalo Joe C46

One sure method of ensuring your AME hasn't forgotten his gear, is to ask him if he wants to ride along in the jump seat! Not really if your AME has forgotten a tool somewhere in your airplane then they have FORGOTTEN it is there. So naturally he would be releasing the aircraft as being fit and saf...

Re: I hate rivnuts

Long as the rivnut is installed correctly (a small notch is cut into the hole prior to squeezing) I don't mind them that much. When people don't do that the rivnut will eventually begin to spin when removing the screw....that grinds my gears.

Re: This article says pilots are the #1 most over paid

http://www.ornge.ca/Media/Articles/Documents/OrngeSalaryDisclosure.pdf 5 pages of mostly EMT-paramedic salaries and no pilots listed. EMT's are considered govermental workers which is why their salaries have to be published. The pilots however are not govermental workers so they don't publish them....

We use Wearcheck (http://www.wearcheck.com/), seem to be good to deal with. I can't tell you about pricing though, it's not something I deal with that part is left for the bean counters.

Typically it is usually only used for the first start of the day, but your company SOP's may be different. I would highly recommend doing one just to see the funky sh1t that happens in the cockpit.

I seem to recall they couldn't get the reliability out of them that was required for certification. But don't quote me on that.
