No, experience doesn't preclude you from a hard landing, but it definitely helps you recognize situations that could lead to it. Also, having heavy jet experience gives you the skill set of energy management. As I stated previously, this was not circuit training. If they have to change all landing g...

Yes they do use the a/c for training.
How else would you accomplish line indoc.
Just wondering if it was a new FO or new Capt.
Does anyone in the know have any recent information?
Also, what figure (fpm or g's) does the CMC record the event as a heavy landing?

transat

I've never applied to work at the Quebec Air Force, since I know I never could afford the pay to work there. Plus I don't think they'd like during the interview if I answered ETOPS was an acronym for Engines Turning Or People Swimming. That being said, I love the St. Saveur area. Has Transat pulled ...

Are groundschools still done in French?
I think they're looking mostly for glider time, with no criminal background check req'd.

Yoyoma, Thanks for the info all the way from Toulouse. But I still think you are misinformed. I didn't say they had a 345 but they broke its records. They were able to fly the Non stop 18.28 hours but complained of numerous other issues. The agreement set out binded both parties as to the disclosure...

Can't you just cry "train to standard" if you don't first pass this interview technical exam.

dear misinformed

Yoyoma: Sorry but I think you are misinformed about the A340 program. There are many disappointed A346 customers, including Cathay. (They don't have any 500 series as you allude to) Cathay got these aircraft with the sole intention of flying non-stop from New York to Hong Kong. They are still unable...

credibility

I think AC is a little more trusting of Boeing's performance claims compared to Airbus.
The 777 performed better than they promised.
The A340-600 was significantly worse than promised performance.

well done

Great news AC! It is important to have a strong national carrier. Does this announcement also indicate that Boeing will refurbish the interiors of AC's 767 in the meantime? I thought that was part of the attractiveness of the Boeing deal. Also. Does this mean that the infighting between Canadian and...

Nvrgvup, Maybe WWFC was/is your first job, so I'll give you some latitude. The ex-CFI was not professional. The only thing he liked was the sound of his own voice. What a great pontificator. Never ending 2 hour meetings on a Saturday morning. (isn't this supposed to be a busy time?) His word meant n...

Or simply:

tan of 3 deg x distance from rwy in ft= your target altitude agl'

eg.
tan 3deg* 6080'=318' agl

Make sure you have your calculator handy as you're hand bombing the approach.

What about the fees each airline owed to Nav Canada? I can't remember the #'s that AC owed. A spokesman for Nav Canada was saying last week that they were going to have to start increasing their fees to recoup the lost $4 mil from Jetsgo. These fees are obviously paid by the travelliing public. Also...

WWFC aka Flying Club

The WWFC used to be a decent place to work.
The number of instructors vs has increased, and the hourly pay has dropped.
10+ years ago instructor made $19-25 per hour.
Instructors billed on average 650+ hrs a year.
They had full benefits, and for awhile profit sharing and Xmas bonus.

On the 747-400: Average extra fuel burn with 1 eng inop is +10% 2 eng inop is +25% If they took off with max zfw, and fuel of 374,000lbs. They would dump around 285,000lbs of fuel for max landing weight. Seems like a lot, but I have my doubts that it has much environmental impact, especially compare...

Night cargo is very tough on the body. There's something wrong about being awake at 4:00am your local time. That being said, you have less workload upfront for the most part. (no PA announcements, F/A's to deal with) If your cargo a/c has a galley and running water, it makes a big difference. UPS us...

I still am not yet sold on the a/c. Many airlines were disappointed with the promised performance/range of the 340-600. I believe Virgin deferred their orders on the 380 til 2008. They were the launch for the 340-600. (mines bigger than yours) - great tail slogan! One thing to remember is that most ...

Twotter, I'm sure it's not the first time that a company threatens layoffs now that a union is in place. What has changed on their balance sheet since the union was brought in? If they were in a position to layoff, they would regardless. They are no longer a "contract pilot" company. Salaries must b...
