Just a question can you log the whole trip as x-country when you file IFR or just the portion that is not actual? I've heard a few different responses on this question.

I don't have a problem with the 3 or 4 year university requirement I have a problem with the types of degrees that they let in. If they where requiring people to have aeronautical engineering or some other technical degree then I think it would make more sense.

Most of the Luftwaffes top aces did not have university education and they where by far the highest scoring pilots in history. Adolf Galland was pretty much blind in one eye and yet he shot down over 100 enemy aircraft on the western front. My friend joined up over 1.5 years ago, it took a year for ...

Some have argued on this thread that in the future prosecuting a pilot will be used only when there is suffiecient evidence of gross negligence. They are missing the fact that the judicial system in Canada is highly politicized. How much time and money did the crown waste in trying to build a case a...

This is a big time slippery slope. It's easy to condemn the pilot in a case that is so cut and dry. But if this goes ahead there will be charges brought in accidents that will be much more iffy as to what happened. Juries will just see the pilot error and convict. The general public knows nothing of...

One construction job that i worked at was a huge log house set at the edge of a cliff. From the top logs to the groung around the house was probably 40'. In the front to the bottom of the cliff was probably 100'. I worked all day up on those logs. I was careful but never had any problems.

Ramp for SIC or PIC?

What would be the better situation. Both jobs are on the ramp to start out with, first ramp to FO in a turbine (PC-12, Otter etc...) second is PIC on something small (206, PA-31 etc...). Which would be most desirable?

The reason they have pilots on the ramp for two years is because they can only fill those positions by dangling the flying job infront of there noses.

Sign me up. It's a good idea to have an association for professional pilots, whose interests may not be the same as COPA.

I've been in a union before, it was a nightmare (construction in Quebec). Maybe the time has come to start a board or association for commercial pilots. I meen if nuckle heads can make 50k baggin nails why can't we even make 30k as F/O in a 1900. When we are co-responsible for all the souls on board.

Fall Road Trip?

Is fall a good time to hit the road looking for a job? I realize most of the hiring for the ramps is done in the spring but if I can get a job now the better. I'm planning to do at least Ontario and Manitoba. Are the Maritimes
worth it?

From the way I'm reading your post Stallie, you want to do the float course then rent out the plane and fly around PIC. I doubt you'll find a place that will rent you out a float plane without at least 50 hours in a float plane. So you'll most likely have to have an experienced float pilot tag along.
