Re: WestJet purchase approval rational.
I thought he laid out all the facts pretty black and white in a manner that was pretty easy to understand and without bias. Your reply, however, is a word salad akin to something a bad politician would say. Also, you can accuse him of placing you in a box, yet that's what you do to him.

Re: Westjet Delta JV
What does it mean for the future of Swoop? Why was it excluded? Reading the Order from the US DOT, it sounds like they like the idea of the potentially aggressive ULCC competition Swoop would bring to the transborder market, and they feel that including Swoop in the joint venture could negatively i...

I went there once in the 206 with Skyward. Landed on an esker strip at the south end of the lake with a part for the lodge.

Re: Descend your discretion clearances
From the AIM, RAC 8.4.1(b) If the phrase “when ready” is used in conjunction with an altitude clearance or instruction, the change of altitude may be initiated whenever the pilot wishes. The climb or descent should be made at an optimum rate consistent with the operating characteristics of the aircr...

Re: Sunwing Runway Overrun - Belfast 2017
I might think harder about this in the future, but I can honestly say an 81% N1 takeoff thrust setting wouldn’t seem out of line to me on a quick glance. I fly with CFM engines (different aircraft type and -5 engines) and that would certainly seem too low to me. We don't even see 81% in cruise! I’v...

Re: Skylease Cargo 747 Runway Overrun YHZ Nov 7, 2018
You would need 3/4 of a mile and just over 300’ to get in on 32 on anything other than an LPV. Which airlines are doing LPV approaches? Are there seriously no airlines doing LPV? (or did I misread a sarcastic tone that wasn't there? :) ) It was a serious question. I know WestJet does not, but I’m n...

There are RNP approaches that come down to less than 300’, but you still need 3/4 of a mile vis to shoot them. ILS isn’t going anywhere.

You cannot ignore the fact that the labour dispute contributed to the tough financial environment as did poor management. There's no question the labour dispute contributed to the loss. The question is, what brought us to a labour dispute? What took a 62% yes vote for ALPA, to a 91% strike vote? Wh...

When I flew Medevacs for BCAS, the paramedics were critical care rated, which was a step above ALS. They also had transport planes the PCP rated guys would work, but the majority of the fleet was critical care. You’re likely getting calls because BCAS resources were tapped, or an Alberta based plane...

That particular approach, the missed approach point is 2 miles shy of the runway, the next waypoint after the MAP is on the missed approach procedure, nowhere near the airport. So if you followed the FMC information via the flight directors, it would not take you to the airport. So, at the MAP with ...

Additionally, there is no chance that the company will succumb to a strike mandate and give in to ALPA's demands. To do so would result in CUPE certifying the FAs overnight and giving their own strike mandate next year. Given the latest fiasco with recording the FAs, I'm not sure CUPE needs ALPAs h...

I like it. The way they incorporate the chevron and the leaf on the tail is neat.
The AC livery, I rarely pass by it without commenting on what an upgrade it is. Although, compared to the toothpaste blue, it could be something akin to an average looking person next to an ugly one.

It’s not as though WestJet has been squeezed for time with these negotiations, they’ve had over seven months! Perhaps if they made some meaningful headway, say securing Swoop flying for WestJet pilots, WSALPA might be willing to extend conciliation?

The European Union AD makes reference to specific part number for fan blades, and the number of cycles. https://ad.easa.europa.eu/blob/EASA_AD_2018_0093_E.pdf/EAD_2018-0093-E_1 The FAA AD seems to say all CFM56s over 30,000 hours, but also makes reference to another bulletin. Perhaps WestJet only ha...

The majority of the drivers are onboard at wages Swoop isnt going to pay..mainline pay and an increase of 30% ?? really? I'd say the intransigence here is heavily ALPA weighted. A 30% raise is rhetoric from the fringe opposite of JS. The bulk probably realize that's not very realistic, especially f...

If you want to earn US style wages, then figure out how 100% of WS's income can be earned in US$ and how WS can operate based out of the US with US costs and US levels of taxation, (at all levels), rather than Canadian levels of taxation and the issues the high levels of taxation cause. Have you ch...
