Re: Seair Passenger Sues

It's part of the STOL kit and the 5600lb upgross, both of which this plane had. TMC did not have the STOL kit -- certainly not the Baron kit. I'm guessing the upgross it had was the 5370lb version. For a while in the early and mid 2000s it had the large flow generators on the wing but they had been...

Re: Beaver down off Saturna island?

Has anyone looked into club seating to help with this issue (I haven't read all eight pages of this topic so it may have been mentioned already). It means that you would have to have two pax forward and three in the rear but the two you put forward are going to be further forward than the current be...

The 9000lb gross weight mod that Harbour Air developed has increased the amount of flap available over the Vazar conversion but not to the full range of the piston Otter.

Re: Harbour Air pay.........ummmm...not so much

Overbooster, nice first post. I think you should look for that job walking dogs and mixing lattes. Twotter describes the pay very well -- the progress is quick and in a few years you'll be making $65k plus. Harbour Air is an excellent company to work for and the pay and days of are equal to or bette...

Re: Central Mountain Air

So how many years to you toss bags (for a paycheck and a location that pretty much precludes you renting from a local flying club for practice) before your newly minted flying skills have been dulled enough before you are suddenly qualified with 250hours + bag hours? For me I worked the ramp while ...

Re: Central Mountain Air

I heard CMA is moving salaries up - not to industry standard or where it should be, but better than what I have seen posted on these forums in the past. True, but not by much. FOs start at 25k, 26.5k, then 28k for years 1,2,3 respectively. Capts get an additional $3600 per year for LID (plus $75 a ...

Re: The End of SEIFR?

Do you see government employees flying in single engine aircraft? I don't mean contract workers. Actual government employees? Does the RCMP count? Government workers certainly spend a lot of time in Single Otters between Victoria and Vancouver. I know that's not IFR but on a lot of days over the Ge...

I'm not sure what the starting wage is but I imagine you're pretty close at $25 an hour (duty time). I believe the senior guys make around $34 an hour which works out $80-$85k. 160 hour guarantee for the winter months and time and a half for any hours over 173 each month. Pilots generally fly 200 to...

It was the piston Beaver that flipped in Crawfish Lake and Top Gun you may want to get your facts straight before you slag people. Martini Sr. was not on board the Beaver when it flipped. I've got about 1300 hours in Beavers on floats and have never seen the need to use full flap for landing. I have, however, used full flap for sailing on a regualr basis. But the way I figure it, if you can fly the aircraft safely with full flap then fill your boots. There's more than one way to skin...

I sat in it the other day, beat that! She's a beauty! Still owned by Kenworth but, from what I understand, not maintained or crewed by Telus anymore. Kenworth has owned it since new and its still got the original paint scheme. One of my favourite Beavers for sure.

Hey DJ, love the Brett Hull analogy; it's perfect.
I don't think anyone gets a job at CMA without knowing what they're getting themselves into (or anyone who reads the posts on AVCANADA anyway). You go there, do the best job you can, then hopefully move on to the majors. Pretty simple.

R44 is the owner's toy -- he uses it to commute between Van and his home in Pemberton. It's also on the OC and they use it infrequently for charters -- mainly log boom inspection work.

Actually 33 aircraft. HA currently operates 12 Turbo Otters on the South Coast. One more is currently being converted. Another flies for North Pacific Seaplanes out of Rupert and the last one is heading to Malta to fly on amphibs. (15 Turbo Otters total) HA also has 14 Beavers; 7 flying on the South...
