Re: Laser Strike Suspect Arrested

I was hit with green laser from the ground while in the 20th floor apartment. The entire living room lit up in green glow. You wouldn't want that if sitting in a dark place like a flight deck at night.

Re: Cuban cigars to Canada

My understanding is that the actual law on US prohibiting cigars has to do with using US currency to buy Cuban goods. Therefore, as a Canadian, buying Cuban goods with Canadian currency you would be OK, even if you bring them to US. But, what the hell are you doing, going to Cuba in the first place,...

Re: Conservatives to scrap the Long Gun Registry

A gun is not a weapon, you seemed to miss my point. Really? That's interesting. In the military I was required to sign out, and be wholly responsible for every weapon I used from a 7mm popgun to a supersonic jet. This was despite the fact I was not authorized, and had no intention of actually harmi...

Re: Conservatives to scrap the Long Gun Registry

Indeed I cannot see how "one life saved" is a valid argument, yet it is the most often used one... Can you see the faults of the LGR to the point that it needs to be dismantled? Why does a farmer in Saskatchewan become a criminal (yes he gets charged criminally) if he does not register his shotgun. ...

Re: Conservatives to scrap the Long Gun Registry

But can you answer the question? Can you show me whose life LGR saved? As for the "guns don't kill", it is true, isn't it? We have laws against killing, so making more laws about the objects used to kill will not stop the killing. People who are determined to break the law about killing are not goin...

But that is the most often cited reason for LGR, especially by the likes of Wendy Coukier and Ron Charach.

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try

Well Hedley, I guess some people need statistics and proof to demonstrate the obvious. Torontonians see their nightclubs getting shot up, and they decide that they need to get rid of firearms everywhere, because a) they're the centre of the universe, and b) clearly the guns are the problem, not the...

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try

One particular activity that occupies a lot of police time is domestic disturbance calls. The gun registry is consulted each and every time because what it reveals changes the way the call is responded to. How many domestic calls have been prevented from spinning out of control because of the diffe...

Re: Conservatives to Scrap Gun Regi$try

Name one example of a crime that has been prevented by the long gun registry. If the crime was prevented it didn't occur did it? I would have to research for a very long time to come up with a real crime that didn't occur. Rockie , the actual saying is more like "If the gun registry saves just one ...

That's why I put it in quotes. One should have allegiance to only one county. The physical location of the person is not an issue. I have a problem with hyphenated Canadians or any other nationality for that matter, but you seldom see it anywhere else.

Niss,
that is precisely why one has to call only one country "home". Then there is no ambiguity and difficulty in understanding, nor need to justify/explain.

I was born a non-Canadian and became one 35 years ago. Ever since then, not once, did I say I am a citizen of the other county nor do I have its passport. I guess technically I am still a citizen there since I haven't formally denounced the citizenship, but if asked I would gladly do so. Canada (or ...
