Re: King Air Cowl Latches
Many years ago I was doing the bank bag run from YYC to YXD when the K100 incident from Fort Mac happened. I used to fly C-FNAA a bunch so TSB had a bunch of questions for me. The company that owned FNAA also owned another K100 but that airplane had a newer style latches that were stronger. I had on...

cost of a charter
Having been isolated from what it costs to fly an airplane, can anyone give me a ball park figure what it would cost to charter say a Cessna Sovereign jet from Calgary to Palm Springs, stay for 3 days and then fly home. Cannot afford the charter, do not want to go to Palm Springs, just curious as to...

Re: AC8839 CRJ900 SFO-YVR
If you were a passenger on this flight and evacuation was being delayed by a passenger struggling with their carry-on baggage, how much force would you use to get that passenger to move along. Would you grab them by the scruff of the neck and toss them out the exit or would you be prepared to die wi...

Re: Staying a bit High Behind a Heavy
I wonder if the Captain of the Westjet Encore flight was thinking that some passenger(s) would complain that the sudden bank angle close to the ground so scared them, so traumatized them, that their (so far insignificant) entire life flashed before their eyes as this tiny (old)airplane banked so ste...

Re: Asymmetric reverse
Of all TPE-331 powered airplanes, the SA226-TC has the poorest engine control design. There are so many bellcranks and cables it is extremely difficult to rig properly. The SA 227 AC Metro 3 has a much improved system.

Re: Who here has been ramped by TC?
More of an urban legend than anything else but in ancient times a new hire DOT (before TC) inspector was supposedly visiting Grace Lake, The Pas Manitoba. Thomas Lamb was still alive but lost his license due to heart problems. On this day, Tom was loading an Otter with his wife as a passenger. The i...

Ennadai Lake Aeradio
Back in the early "70's I did a couple of ad-hoc resupply trips to ENNADAi LAKE where there was I do believe a weather reporting station and an Aeradio station. Chiupka Airways supposedly bought their Canso primarily to service Ennadai Lake but by the time I arrived in Lynn Lake, the service was gon...

TCA/Air Canada Vickers Vanguard
Are there any old pilots around who flew the Vanguard airplane who would like to comment on the airplane. Was it any good? Was it easy to fly? Was it a safe airplane?

Max take-off weight for privat pilot licence
Many moons ago I received a private pilot license endorsed for single engine, land, with a maximum take-off weight of 4,000 pounds. Is this take-off weight still in effect for a new private pilot?

Re: Missed Pitot Heat Can be Dangerous
Firstly this appears to be a Beech 200 Super King Air not a B737. Secondly, what ever happened to the Abnormal/Emergency checklist?? I have personally either forgot the pitot heat (OOPS) or had the switch/circuit breaker pop and I should think this is not something that should be taken lightly but t...

Re: Landed Beside Runway
I read about a number of small jets that landed beside the runway during snow events. I seem to remember a yellow MD80 that did a touch and go beside RWY 34 in Calgary. The jet survived but was damaged. I have arrived in Regina in the early morning just after light snow fell. I broke out of cloud we...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
I good discussion on the actions someone should or can take when crewed with a less than stellar pilot but any suggestions when one comes across a totally incompetent private pilot who is flying his own airplane. Especially when you see him/her loading trusting passengers. I knew of a couple of priv...

Re: Does no-one wear seatbelts?
If I were on that plane (aeroplane) and the pilots did the dippsy doodles like they did and were playing tricks like that and drove the plane through those air pockets and dropped thousands of feet like they did, I would make sure the mechanics checked the tin all around the plane. I would have thou...

Re: King Air crash in US
I have many hours in both the Beech King Air 200, the B200 and the 350, both as a pilot, training pilot, check pilot and groundschool instructor and I have seen this scene so often it really makes me wonder. There is a major misconception about the rudder boost system installed in the Beech King Air...

Re: Damaging an engine by turning the prop backwards
It is partially the vacuum pumps as already mentioned plus the starter/generator brushes plus old wives tales. Used to do it all the time to clear a flooded engine. Never broke anything nor had a premature failure that I knew of.

Re: (Required) Black hole departure.
., I have done various types of a black hole departure hundreds of times but always after I got my instrument rating so I felt more comfortable simply heads down monitoring the instrument panel. Now, I assume you have done much the same but how do you set the panel lights? down low so you can see ou...

Re: Is it really Prist
I have zero aquantenance with DEF except truckers say the DEF pumps will freeze in cold weather. But to answer why pilots will use Prist when aircraft usually do not require it is like a belt and suspenders thing. The manufacturer of Prist had to guarantee it would preform as advertised as an anti-i...

Re: Twin otter on the ice
AP, Did I fly a Fairchild F11 Husky, sure did. A couple of years in CF-SAQ for Parsons Airways, based in Flin Flon. Great airplane once you get it out of the water but colder than a well diggers ass in the winter. Southwind heater when it worked.
