Re: DHC2 Misfiring

Had one misfiring on me a few years ago in heavy rain...west coast heavy rain! Took another occurrence to get the engineers serious about it and found moisture was getting into a mag/mag wiring, problem solved.

My foray into a flying was a whole new career for me.

And, you will not need 1000hrs on type to fly the west coast...'nother myth busted. There definitely IS a shortage of experienced floaters.

Re: Hi!

A few points first off: Not sure why you would have to own a seaplane in order to fly one...some people actually pay you to fly their aircraft. Also don't let age and a lack of funds deter you from your dreams, where there's a will there's a way. I re-started my career in my early 30'...

The Mexican place is closed for the winter. I second the Dingy Dock Pub...a short ferry ride to Protection Island...don't get run over by a seaplane.;)

Re: Della Falls, Vancouver Island, B.C.

Della Falls is at the head of Great Central Lake coming down from some alpine lakes above in two sets of falls if I remember correctly. I use to do tours up there over Strathcona Park and the Comox Glacier in a 172. It's not a tight box canyon per se but more of a set of lakes on stepped ledges/benc...

Re: Battle lines being drawn over YHC Seaplane Terminal

You should educate yourself before making a statement like that 'viccoastdog'. There are other airlines using the HA/WCA dock in YHC while at least three other airlines use the dock at the Westin Bayshore just down the road in Coal Harbour. Passengers do have a choice.

Pretty sure that was Steven Wallace (Rusty's son) who got a yank in the wig. Hopefully Nascar will give the offender a word or two. :smt014

Re: GUSTS! Handling tips & tricks for landing on floats

Good question "soak", one I asked myself when starting out. Kinda got it figured out after 10 years flogging floats on the west coast, I'm no expert but find these techniques help a lot. Using your throttle is the first technique you should get familiar with. As you approach a gust pull the throttle...

HA goes to the downtown core of Nanaimo whereas Seair goes to Departure Bay where the ferries dock.

Re: Diving

Good advise, be careful with your ears. They are very susceptible to damage from the water pressure and infection from water borne viruses. I once lost my medical for a month due to inflammation and required medication to treat them...I gave up diving after that.

Re: VFR minimum question.

Good point, I could never understand why our windspeed max.(30 knots) here on the south coast is lower than the central/north coast max winds...we're still flying the same aircraft.

Guess nothing would get done on the north coast if you quit when winds hit 30.

Re: A Legend has passed

Very sad to hear. Rob taught me to fly a Beaver on Lac La Croix and left with me lessons I'll never forget. Even on days when the weather was crappy with clouds at treetop level he didn't hesitate when I said I wouldn't do the trip...he would hop in NFI and get the job done...no questions asked, a s...
