Re: Orca Suspended

The 206 is a big 172. Actually, the 172 was harder to fly because it didn’t have power to get you out of trouble. You probably wouldn’t believe what I could make that plane do. They are the most dangerous jobs, but they’re dead simple. Load enough gas, don’t overload the plane too much, don’t fly I...

Oh, and oil ain't going anywhere in our lifetime. It'll get more expensive, as things that deplete do. But it isn't going anywhere for the simple reason that there just isn't any alternative even close to carbon-based sources for recoverable energy output. Notable exception is nuclear, which has a ...

Re: Orca Suspended

Know a guy who knows a guy who has 250TT and was promised a seat under the Orca/Integra banner. Now has to start from scratch again. Yeah well, when Orca lost their ability to operate, it didn't benefit the employees. That's true. An attempt was made to salvage the business and take on their staff,...

Re: Aircraft down, CYSN

I am learning something new all the time by reading these posts. Crashing airplanes has nothing to do with getting behind the airplane it is caused by random wind changes and all pilots can get caught unaware and crash regardless of their flying skills. I am sure happy I was never in the wrong plac...

And 3, is we're Ifr. Meaning aircraft separation is accounted for,
VFR aircraft are allowed in Class E airspace with no clearance, it's only controlled for IFR traffic

LOL sorry for the bump

Re: Why no 126.7 call?

In virtually every situation where this situation may pop up you are on an atc frequency (center) and then have the choice of the MF or 126.7 for the other radio. Two reasons for picking the MF. 1. Usually there is someone very knowledgable locally on the other end and can give you presice details ...

Re: Why no 126.7 call?

I've heard AC make calls on 26.7 going into YMM on many occasions. Likewise (always inbound from the east anyways). Oh. Ok nice :) I haven't been operating out of there for years, but AC didn't go into there much back then, so I guess I wouldn't know. Is it SOP for you to broadcast on 26.7 when ent...

Re: Why no 126.7 call?

well it's pretty much all transponder airspace now and the oilsands freq. is 123.5, so why make a call on 126.7? What's pretty much all transponder airspace now? Canada? Yes the oilsands zone is about 800 sq mi where the en route freq is 123.5, and that would be the appropriate freq to use in that ...

Re: Why no 126.7 call?

Well I only have about 4500 hours but I've spent a lot of it in Fort McMurray and the oilsands, Prince George, Vancouver and Yellowknife and I haven't heard an airline make a 126.7 call yet except for one from Jazz and some from Suncor. Actually 5T and 7F make a lot of them. But AC and WJ are at tho...

Why no 126.7 call?

I've always wondered why I never hear Air Canada or WestJet making calls on 126.7? I understand that you're almost always IFR and that you are seperated from other IFR traffic by ATC. But if you're in VMC, and your airport is not serviced with terminal airspace there's no reason that there couldn't ...

Re: Airlines Face Acute Shortage of Pilots

Pff, if you want to make good money go be a lineman for the power companies. Low 70s is above average but that's about it, most pilots make more than that. Everyone's always complaining about money in this industry but it's not that bad. Fly for three years and you're in the 70's, unless you manage ...

No! These guys are trying to hose you. For one thing, never ever pay for your own training. That's not your responsibility. Any job you go to requires training, and I don't just mean flying jobs. If you go to a government job, nursing job, engineering etc you require training and none of them pay fo...

It is interesting to note that often in cases like this, where there is no injury or damage the occurrence is treated as minor, and little detailed investigation is taken. That's true, and it would be nice to have a full investigation done for every incident. But even if that was a fatal crash it w...

Re: CFC too much air in the tanks?

An audible fuel warning horn couldn't be that expensive to rig up, maybe people should think about installing them into light single-engine airplanes. Not because we all need it but, all the larger aircraft are being loaded up with regs on aircraft equipment, when I think it would be better put to u...

Re: How long to make 50k-60k as a pilot ?

LOL. I get it now. Nice Beef. UM! No pilot salaries should not be ruled by A/C weight. Does a Seneca grad direct entry onto the RJ at Jazz deserve more than senior training captains on say a Saab, when the new hire can't even operate the plane by himself in a safe manner? Or what about a guy flying ...

Met a handful of guys who do chisel charters and they are always always the worst pilots around. Someone should put that in the kijiji user disclaimer. One guy started doing them after I refused to check him out to fly revenue passengers, so he got his own plane that he crashed 3 weeks later.

I don't personally know the current instructors but I know the operation has very good maintenance, good hiring personnel and there's nothing to be scared of training there. The key to good training is a good work ethic on the student's part, so you have every opportunity to succeed.

Re: IFR Rating for Private Pilots flying recreationally

Well, a private pilot flying recreationally in a light single-engine piston now and then is not really the right platform for IFR flying. It's easy to get rusty and can be pricey/complicated staying equipped, valid and current with everything. But! It's definitely a good set of skills to have as a p...

Yeah there's no variation calculation required. In fact it wouldn't even be very possible to try to figure out what your true heading is by any compass reference because the compass only really works in the aircraft I've taken up there with your generators, windshield heat etc OFF and the compass sw...
