Re: Ice Pilots Started
I think he was asking what your hobbies and interests are. I would want to blow my brains out if I had a three day pairing with a guy who said flying defines who he is, there have got to be better ways to spend your time than to fly all day and then run to the avcanada website followed up by some mi...

Re: Ice Pilots Started
Joe sure sets a terrible example to young pilots, if you're uncomfortable with the approach for any reason then go around! His teachings and attitude will get more people killed.

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
Okay flyinthebug nobody asked for your life story. I said that all of the training was done on empty legs I didn't say that it was legal because it isn't, don't start quoting the CARS to me. I worked at buffalo for a long time. Just think if they caught Joe yelling at his employees as much as they d...

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
Oh my god, everyone is so misinformed. Just the facts: It doesn't cost 20k to do a PPC maybe 2k for jsut the ride since all of the dedicated training is done on empty legs. Gord got hired 2 months after doing his ride on the C46, it wasn't the next day like the way they make it look on the show. Aft...

Of course, I wasn't thinking clearly. I meant having a flight plan filed, I've flown up north for the better part of a decade VFR so duhhh.SAR_YQQ wrote:Quite the opposite - some places you can't get into IFR (alternates, approach minimums etc).PistonPounder2800 wrote:That far north there's nothing but IFR.

Do any of you have anything positive to say or is it just bitching? It seems like a lot annoys the majority of you maybe you shouldn't watch the show if you're going to spend the better part of your time gossiping like school girls. These forums used to be fun to read.

Re: Air Tindi Crash near Lutsel K'e
I think the problem isn't with VFR or IFR flying. It's when the two get mix. IFR has sector altitudes and safe altitudes that take right to an approach, how can it get much safer? But convincing yourself that you know the area so it's safe to descend through cloud and sneak your way in isn't accepta...

Sitting their mad at the world, taking it out on the young F/O. HHMMM! Serious character flaw, and now the whole world knows it! I try to not get to pissed, because it's not in my nature. 1200 a month!!! Get some balls and move up north, you're never going to get ahead in your career or with your finances starting out as an instructor on the west coast.

As far as not declaring because you are worried about what Joe would say is just spineless BS. Those that a worried about that need to get a back bone. Quote They're not going to declare an emergency every time one of these things hicups. They're used to it and know what they're doing. Quote Okay ta...

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
WOW well said Matt777. We have had lots of talks about when to declare an emergency. In that situation they had a rough running engine but a safe approach was possible, then engine wasn't windmilling, they just elected not to shut it down so it was still producing power. If they had 300 pax on board...

No it's not JS or AJ. I thought you were someone who used to work for us, but I'm not so sure now. I still want my beer though! Yeah the poor C46. I guess there's not enough work right now so people keep running into airplanes.

I will not even try to define his attitude, suffice to say it is perplexing, infuriating , and hopeless. haha. I think that I have a pretty good idea who you are 302sc. Well put though. Back to the original question about Buffalo, right now it is the eternal wait. There are 5 rampies and 4 co-pilot...

Re: Buffalo Airways Info
A job is not to be passed down in these economic times. Even if you don't like Buffalo you're in the right place to get started in aviation. It is expensive to live up here but the huge dollars you make working on the ramp help, joking. There are quite a few people on the ground right now so it woul...

I can't believe how off topic the responses got to rolowang's question. Also Hooker, you have to be the most immature pilot out there I hope I never have to share the sky with you. You should come up to Yellowknife rolowang work for Buffalo for a couple of weeks meet the guys and make a decision for...

I took this pic when I was on the ramp at Buffalo airways. Even a dog can fly a DC-4 so I knew that I'd be okay.

Blew a tire on a gravel strip up north. Jacking up a fully loaded C-46 with a car jack proved more difficult than we tought.

If you get hired with around 1500 hours then you'll definitely standout but you need the thousand plus hours on a round engine before you go left seat. You will be hated by the ground guys and most definitely called a scab.

Ka8, you could definitely get on with Buffalo. They're hiring right now. But I think with more than 250hours you could get a job flying right away somewhere else and not have to deal with 75 hour weeks for a year plus.

Re: Ramp jobs: Buffalo Airways vs Air Tindi
I work for Buffalo and am loving the machines. But thinking back I don't konw how I made it through the bull@$%#. You can't go wrong with Tindi but if you have a real love for old airplanes then try Buffalo.
