Re: Study shows career as a pilot becoming less attractive
I'm not necessarily convinced that working conditions and pay are what's driving less people to become pilots. Especially if you're pooling the younger crowd. When a student starts flying, they're usually focused on right now, flying as a career is likely an after thought, a bridge that must be cros...

Re: PPL Training
I do mostly contract work outside Calgary, so time+money=constant. I don't have the money upfront, so I could take a lesson or two per month. This way I would have to review a lot, and this is where the 80 hours are coming from. I may finish earlier, but I can't bet on it. Most FTU's have a 30 day ...

Re: Out of control pitch
The solution is to roll until you are no longer pitching up. Roll beyond that to get the nose down, roll towards level to get the nose up. You have now converted your bank angle into your pitch control. A Falcon 7x did this when they had a stab trim runaway and were able to keep the aircraft in the...

Re: Bluebird flight academy in Chilliwack ?
Blue Bird is good. Yes they have a history, but when they moved from London to Chilliwack they hired a whole new team of instructors, and a new CFI. Management is the same, but the CFI is great and runs a tight ship. They're a diamond in the rough if you ask me. I wouldn't hesitate referring student...

Re: please help me decide!
It's a long, hard road to becoming a paid commercial pilot. Perhaps less than 1 in 10 people that start, actually end up being paid to fly. I heard a very similair stat, although it was 1 in 5. Looking back though, I remember doing my training with 4-5 people my age who all wanted to fly commercial...

Would anyone know the legalities of putting a lien against a former employers property for unpaid wages? Is it possible?

Re: Spin Training
I believe TC views it as aerobatics. But can be wrong.
As far as doing it, if you own your own airplane that is certified for spins and have the require training, it's really up to you.

Re: Spin Training
I always tell my students there's two criteria that must be met in order to spin an airplane. First the airplane must be stalled Second the airplane must be in un-coordinated flight. How many PPL students are given the authority to fly solo, and are even given a license with little to no understandi...

Incoming international students
I recently heard that no more overseas students wishing to learn to fly in Canada will be allowed in, regardless of where they are in their visa process. Citing various reasons.
Can anyone confirm? I tried searching but came up blank.

Re: dont lift the flaps in the flare
The young ones don't care because they are not paying the maintenance bills. Its a new world Barney. Wrecking airplanes due to poor training and thus no real idea of how to fly is covered in the post wrecking thought process. It goes like this. " Shit happens "........that covers incompetence. If t...

Re: dont lift the flaps in the flare
Compare the take off charts to the landing charts. Next read the notes. The take off distances are predicated on using short field technique. Usually, this means you can't get much shorter then this. Therefore, why are instructors always requiring students bang the airplane on the ground at a give p...

Re: How do you become a commercial pilot in Canada?
Most schools that demand that training be paid for up front, don't offer any srt of incentive to do so as so many students are completely willnig to fork over the money. This is true, but without mentioning names, there are a few schools that will give that 1-2% savings if you keep a $500 reserve o...

When a school tells you you either must put money down, or you'll save 1-2% by paying for training up front, run. If the school goes belly up,you'll be out your entire deposit.MartinB wrote:What do you mean by this?Shiny Side Up wrote:3) Don't put money on account. This can't be stressed enough.

When I am doing night ratings, I love flying west from eastern ontario. I don't say anything, and as we head out over the blackness of Algonquin park, the horizon provided by the lights on the ground disappears. And, we roll upside down, exactly simulating JFK, jr. I've done this route several time...

It's unfortunate that you group all class IV instructors into the same category. A bunch of know if all know nothings, but where do you think class II and class I's start out? I didn't know wanting to be a career long instructor was a prerequisite to teach? Now I'll admit, I'm a class IV, and have h...
