Re: Lac Seul?

Has anyone on here worked there for a summer? Got an offer from there and was wondering what you thought about it. PM me if you'd like, or post away here! There's lots of other posts in regards to working for Amik Outposts/lac seul airway's. Lots of guys started with John and Rena. And are still fl...

Re: Demand for float drivers 2017?

I finished my CPL and got my float rating last year because I'm in my mid 30s and highly doubted I could climb the airline ladder in time to do much with it (without winning a lottery to pay for hours, but that's taboo!). I want to go float because it was a natural fit as soon as I was on the water...

Re: The divorce thread

My ex was with me for as long as I have been flying/ working in the industry (about 10 years, married for 2) she was all for "follow your dream" until the time came. I left for the summer to work the dock. And she instantly regretted say that. She told me several times that she didn't want to be mar...

Re: Lac Seul Airways

I'm a 250hr commercial pilot. I recently applied for a dockhand position with Lac Seul Airways. Is there anything i should know about the company? They say 95% of their dockhands fly the year after with an operator in the area. Is this true or should I just go do a 50 float plane course and apply e...

Re: Lac Seul Dockhand job

Can anyone tell me if there is a benefit to taking a dockhand job for the summer vs doing a 50 hour float course and applying with a cpl and 50 hrs float time. For me I'm not sure if its worth the $15000 risk of not getting a job this summer on floats since most operators will have already hired st...

Re: Lac Seul Dockhand job

John and Rena are awesome to work for! They are great people, and they treat their dockhands like people. That being said, you will work you A** off. But if you're not a slow walker, have a strong work ethic, and get through the season, you will get a good letter of recommendation. A lot of their d...

Re: Seaplane Time

Work a season on the dock first. It will give you the experience of how an operator works. And it will give you a good insight of what to expect. It's not all just flying to and from lakes. If you work for an operator that services or has their own outposts, you will be expected to do general maint...

Re: Seaplane Time

Thanks, that's good advise. I'm worried about logging PIC time without being on his insurance. I guess if he's there, it's no big deal. However, I will ask him to give a call down to his company to check. And I plan on working the dock. Good character building. I'm currently training at Waterloo-We...

Re: 4 fatal - crash nw of Waterloo ON Aug 24 2012

I understand that everyone is trying to voice their opinions, so something like this doesn't happen again, but it seems like for a period of time the comments have gotten out of hand. I understand that people all want to know what happened as well. We all want to know. We do know that this aircraft ...

This sounds very much like a 'fuel' issue. Sad, sadder still if it was indeed preventable.[/quote] Can you please clarify 'fuel' issue? Also, I understand people wanting to draw conclusions based on what has been reported through the media, and how everyone is commenting on spin training, and how yo...

Re: Expectation when arriving at an FBO?

I think Canadian FBO's should send their employees down to any backwater US airport and check out their FBO's and the level of service provided. Granted the level of service at most major Canadian airports is pretty good, however once away from those "service" is pretty spartan. For a Business Jet ...

pilots n paws

My girlfriend and I really want to help dogs, either as volunteers (both of us) or as a job(her). Shes a volunteer at the Humane Society, and shes trying to be a volunteer with another organization. I'm trying to get some volunteer time in as well. But working at the FBO I don't get a lot of free ti...
