Re: Small a/c crashes into Texas office building
Aw what the heck. Isn't aviation buggered up enough already now we need another lunatic to cast us all in an even worse light. I really don't look forward to what this might mean for GA.

That works or an automated system that everybody hates, 1 emergency (the cab) 2 Wx and flight planning (redirect to FSS or FIC) 3 Administration (Crichton's home number). Or just use common sense. Seemed like the major problem that day, and according to one of them most days lies with pilots that ha...

Roger on the gin, sinjin that was you? Yeah when I first started there back in the 90's it was a pretty cool casual place that just seemed to tank after a clusterflop of bad decisions. They've done some great stuff like getting the online booking up and... well that's all that really comes to mind. ...

Calls to the Cab
I was visiting a couple guys at the tower here the other day and could not believe the number of routine, "fluff" calls they got while I was there. Topics ranged from what is the RSC, my friend is coming in on this flight when will it arrive, what is the temperature, what is the weather sequence and...

A .38 and one round for every seat installed.
But seriously it depends on where, when, how and what you fly. The guidance in the AIM is a pretty good start. Love the GPS backed up with appropriate charts but a Sat phone still isn't the most practical.

"Bingo" Fuel?
Okay this has been baffling me for a long time. Does anybody know the origin of the term "Bingo" in Bingo fuel.
The closest response I got that has made sense was "BINGO because your fuel is under the O." Kind of a smart a$$ response but it seems probable.

Poor Check-On-Types
Call me crazy, everyone else does, but I don't think most schools handle checkouts very well. Over the last two weeks I've done the yearly dance on three of my favorite aircraft and the only differencewas the fact they were on different aircraft. I mean if I can steep turn a 172 to commcercial stand...

I think it's a pretty lousy benchmark for an employer to use since there are many reasons why someone would have alot of dual time. Ratings, check-on-types, license conversions, ect ect ect. It would be like judging a hockey player by how many practices they've attended. And having extra dual time i...

I would rather fly a well maintained single in IMC than any twin with gremlins waiting to pop out of the radios and gyros. Having an extra 1-7 engines might be nice but unless have the experience, mindset or stones to continue flying with one or more engines out in IMC then fly an approach, miss bec...

I got the wx briefing from hell tonight, "It's good" he said "It will all be moving off to the east he said." So after batt...

bah, X-Plane is the onl good one out for mac platforms right now but I thought FLY! was much better. As far as system realism goes. The only problem is that there were not many options to fly, the largest plane was the KA200 although a few add-on packages came out for the 737-500 and 777. I liked it...

Strange Things Students Do
Just wondering if some current or former instructors or students care to share any stories from their teaching or training days. And don't be afraid to rat out another instrutor of flying buddy because those are some of the best tales of all. I had one student who would key the mike and xmit a "DING...

The fact remains it all adds up, if you're paying an annual fees, plus landing fees, and soon a departure fees it makes something that is already expensive to most prohibitive to many more. I'd love to see their justification for this extra charge, it I depart an uncontrolled transit the YVR zone to...

WAIT! It's not all bad, since it will be harder to find handguns in Canada I can traffic them from the States and sell them to cons at an outragous markup. Then with the money I make from that I can go to Colombia and India and start trafficking in Blow and Smack then sell it to school children. Now...

I heard a few weeks ago that 72 major aiports in the US are to get new hold short markings to reduce the number of runway incursions. http://www.airportbusiness.com/article/article.jsp?id=3318&siteSection=4 I like their idea, add a centerline as you approach the hold position. Just like most airport...
